Not only is the state massive, it is easy to be in awe of the historical splendor that led to Texas being a part of the United States.
Historical buffs can often clash as to what parts of the world bring the richest historical heritage "A-game", but it's hard to deny that Texas is a marvel all its own. If you love Texas history, here are five places you have to check out:
1. Pecan Festival in Austin, TX - Austin is not only the capital of Texas, its namesake is none other than Stephen F. Austin, the "Father of Texas". Austin is also known for live music all over the world, but one thing people don't know is that in the 1970s, downtown Austin was not the artistic draw it is now. The festival was put together to serve as a project to revitalize the area and was named after Sixth Street's original name, Pecan Street.
2. Kyle Field in College Station, TX - This is the home of the Texas A&M Aggies. In Texas, it's inevitable that history, as well as any other subject, will find itself intertwined with history. Enjoy the splendor of college football pageantry tradition, as well as the nearly unmatched support from students past & present.
3. The Original Home of Baylor University - Now known for its home in Waco, Texas, Baylor University began life in Independence, TX for over four decades, no doubt a gem of Washington County, but with changing fortunes and financial shifts due to the Civil War, the move was made to Baylor's current home in Waco.
4. Washington-on-the-Brazos - The Texas Declaration of Independence was signed in the town of Washington, Texas. Washington-on-the-Brazos, as it is most well-known, is the place where Texas declared its want to be separated from Mexico, leading the way for the Republic of Texas to be born.
5. The Sam Houston Homesite - Sam Houston, one the of heroes of Texas independence, was known to be a cavalier individual, indulging in various vices through his life. It was in Independence, TX, however, that Houston would be baptized.
