Ah, La Gomera! What a truly spectacular place. You may be wondering: 'La GoWhere?' - And with good reason too, as it really is the Canary's best kept secret, for now at least.
La Gomera is a beautiful little island in the Atlantic which lies off the coast of Africa. It's the smallest out of the seven Canary Islands, though what for what it lacks in size, it certainly makes up for in its natural beauty and irrefutable charm.
It is a circular Island from volcanic origin and is only 14 miles in diameter! Again, though small in stature its mountainous terrain makes for some truly breath-taking views. There are few places left on earth which boast such natural splendour which haven't been harassed by mass-tourism to the brink of suffocation.
La Gomera on the other hand, affords its visitors the ultimate level of peace and quiet.
Of course, that's not to say that there is nothing to do there! If you want to enjoy some insanely delicious food and a relatively bustling nightlife then there are a few reputable restaurants and bars; though for the most part, La Gomera embraces the quiet life.
If you want hustle and bustle, then you should head on over to La Gomera's sister Island of Tenerife. Though, if you want to escape from the madness and enjoy the simple pleasures that life has to offer then La Gomera is almost certainly the place for you! So, what is there to do on this quiet, hidden gem of an Island?
Take a Hike!
It's not everyone's cup of tea, though for those of you who love the great outdoors then La Gomera has a wealth of magnificent hiking trails for you to choose from. The popular trails in La Gomera range in distance from 5km up to roughly 11km, affording you plenty of opportunity to build up a sweat!
Enjoy a stroll along the beach and through the Valle Gran Rey. This is one of the more popular destinations on the Island due to its stunning views and rich cultural history.
A Sunset like no Other
We've all watched the sun set a thousand times, each one more beautiful than before. A sunset on La Gomera however, is arguably one of the most unforgettable experiences that you can witness.
You can gather with your friends and the local residents with a few cold beers as you watch the fire dancers perform to native pipe and drum music while the sun sets. It really is something to behold and offers an entirely unique experience to that of the clashing of various dance anthems blasting from every bar along the strip in Tenerife.
Whale Watching
There are few places where you can successfully spot Whale's in all of their natural beauty. La Gomera offers a number of enticing excursions which will break your holiday up rather nicely. A few hours on a boat with a spot of lunch in beautiful weather doesn't sound all that bad does it?
The Mirador de Abrante Restaurant
In the northern region of the island you have the stunning restaurant known as: Mirador de Abrante. This is renowned the world over as offering the most majestic views in all of La Gomera. Through this incredible glass structure, you will be able to enjoy a unique view of Tenerife from 625 metres above sea level!
Relax
There is much cultural beauty to admire in La Gomera, with a number of local festivals in which tourists are most welcome to take part. The most important thing of all though, is being able to truly escape from the mundanity and stresses of every day life and unwind in paradise.
Stray from the beaten path and experience this wonderful hidden gem while it is still relatively untouched by tourism. You'll have an amazing time and look back on your stay in La Gomera with only the fondest of memories.
