Bardenas Reales - The Old 'American West' in Spain

Located in the Navarra region of Spain, the Bardenas Reales is stark, rugged and dry and looks very much like the old wild American West.

This semi-desert region is in the southeast of Navarra, close to the border with Aragon and right in the heart of the Ebro Valley. Exploring the scenery, with its amazing natural structures, you would be forgiven for expecting a couple of cowboys to come riding up on the plain.

These natural and fascinating structures are caused by the erosion of clay, chalk and sandstone to form almost lunar scenes, with plateaus, gullies and hills and the occasional really strange, stand-alone shape. These unusual scenes have inspired writers and painters in the past, and the Bardenas Reales natural park has been used as a backdrop for several Spanish films, music videos and television adverts.

The Bardenas Reales natural park covers an area of 42,500 hectares and has been declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. There are various hiking and cycling routes, clearly marked and accessible throughout the park and the area can be crossed on foot, horseback or bicycle, or more comfortably by car. The only exceptions are the best viewpoints in the park, namely the "Alto de Aguilares" and the "Balcn de Pilatos," which are accessible only by bicycle or on foot.

As for somewhere to stay, the city of Tudela is the most convenient stopping off point and is a very charming place to visit and sleep over. The park is easily accessed via the NA-134 road, which runs from Tudela to Arguedas. The city is interesting by itself, and is known as the capital of the "Ribera Navarra." Tudela has several historic sites and buildings, dating back to its occupation by the Romans and the Celt-Iberians in the distant past.

Of interest to visit are the central public square, known as the "Plaza de los Fueros" and the various palaces in the city, as well as the Muoz Sola Museum of Modern Art. The cuisine of the city tends to center on fresh vegetables and meat, all grown and produced locally and one particular dish, the traditional menestra, is a tasty combination of those vegetables.

While the city has several excellent hotels and smaller pensions on offer, possibly the most fascinating and appropriate accommodation in the area is located outside of Tudela, right on the border of the natural park. The Hotel Aire de Bardenas has been designed to merge with nature and features an indoor garden, as well as an indoor and outdoor pool.

In the way of cuisine, the onsite restaurant and bar serves only the best and fresh locally-grown produce, most of it grown on the property, including asparagus, artichokes, and the best tender lamb, as well as a special Tudela lettuce. Vegetarians are also well looked after at the hotel's restaurant.

Naturally the views surrounding the hotel are simply amazing, whether looking across at the mountains and unusual shapes in the sandstone, or gazing towards the city of Tudela itself.

Take a different route on your next Spanish trip and head to Bardenas Reales. You won't regret it.

Reading Comprehension - An Educational Failure

Despite and in spite of all the electronics in our world, one still has to read and one has to comprehend what has been read. Today's readers must be versatile, effective, and be able to read many types of material for many different purposes. It doesn't matter if it's an iPhone, iPad, PC, e-book, or printed material, comprehension is essential. Modern teachers at all levels of the educational ladder must be aware of the need to adjust learning material to a wide range of instructional purposes to ensure reading comprehension. There are six major categories of comprehension ability.

1. Reading for factual information
2. Reading to organize
3. Reading to evaluate
4. Reading to interpret
5. Reading for appreciation
6. Reading to skim.

It should be noted that rarely is one of these comprehensive reading skills used in its pure form. Does a child need a wealth of experiences emphasizing each of these six comprehensive abilities? The immediate answer is no. As the child moves through the educational system, the materials he or she reads become more and more complex. Situations become remote, dealing with concepts and locale outside of his or her first-hand experience. Ideas become debatable as organization expands in scope. The reader's purpose becomes more highly specialized and increases in number. Comprehension skills become more specialized as the reader's need to differentiate more sharply comes into play. Coming back to the question about the wealth of experience emphasizing the six comprehensive abilities a child needs, the long-term answer is an emphatic yes!

Educators at all levels must provide for the continued development of reading skills, especially that of comprehension and its six components. Children are not taught reading. They are taught how to read. How to read becomes important in today's testing crazed educational systems. Interpretation of what questions mean, what they are asking for often determines the success or failure of standardized examinations. If a child is having difficulty in reading, the teacher should create material that that student can read. This does place an additional burden on the teacher, but the end reward will be well worth the effort. If the student doesn't have good comprehensive skills he or she is condemned to failure. After all, an important role of the school is to promote success rather than failure.

10 Best Places to Visit for Seniors

Every destination on our earth is filled with amazing opportunity for people of all ages and from all walks of life. Tropical destinations are often the most popular choice for our current generation, but there are also many underrated destinations to visit as well. While there is no one "best" place for anyone to visit, these ten destinations, in no particular order, will better suit the interests of seniors.

1. Hawaii

While Hawaii isn't just a vacation-spot for retirees, it is definitely an ideal place to visit! Here, retirees can spend their days at golf courses, relaxing on the beach, or simply basking in the gentle sun. Oahu includes many popular tourist spots along with the tropical paradise that everyone seeks. To avoid tourist bustle, book your vacation to Maui or the Big Island.

2. St. Petersberg and Clearwater, Florida

Known as the Sunshine City, because of its yearly 361 days of sun, St. Petersberg is an amazing spot for seniors. It offers beautiful warm, sandy beaches along the western coast of Florida as well as a lively pier. Additionally, this sunny city offers world-class museums and more.

3. Lake Tahoe, California

Lake Tahoe, with its beautiful, towering trees is a great spot to visit no matter the season. In the winter, the beautiful snow caresses the sky-high trees and glazes the clear waters. During the summertime, the water of Lake Tahoe is as extremely clear and serves as an optimal picnic spot.

4. Niagara Falls, Canada

This beautiful waterfall is one of the seven wonders of the world, which attracts people from all over the globe. Seeing the sharp drop of the waterfall cliff may be a slight thrill to those who are afraid of heights, but the overall falls is breathtaking in itself. There's also a boat, the Hornblower tour, that takes tourists practically under the thundering falls. Additionally, the falls is located in an area that contains more than sixty wineries.

5. Key West, Florida

Part of the Florida keys, Key West is often described as an area with a calmer, slower pace. Not only does its coasts include coral reefs, but they also have beautiful white, sandy shores. The location, less than 100 miles from Cuba, is also often included in many cruise tours as well.

6. Alaska

Alaska is a popular destination for seniors, as it is often a final stop for cruises from the western coast of California. The beautiful landscape contains massive glaciers, waterfalls, and of course the Northern Lights, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Not only that, but there are plenty of whale-watching boats available for seniors to take part in as well. Seniors can also partake in fishing trips or relax in cabin homes during their vacation.

7. Cuba

Cuba, most known for its tropical weather and clear blue waters is one of the best destinations for seniors. Havana, Cuba's capital, carries all the culture and history that the entire Caribbean has to offer. If there's particular interest in Spanish colonial culture, Cuba is the place to go.

8. Sicily, Italy

Located at the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily offers spectacular views of the ocean and the Valley of the Temples. Not only that, but seniors can go wine-tasting and feast on unique Sicilian dishes as well as pizza, of course.

9. Bangkok, Thailand

Thailand, home of colorful, unique Asian culture, offers luxurious vacationing opportunities for only a fraction of the price. Not only does the country serve as the habitat to exotic animals, but it also is home to some of the world's most striking, flavorful dishes. There are also opportunities to visit amazing, religious temples including the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun.

10. Reno, Nevada

There's no denying that gambling is a popular hobby for seniors or retirees. Instead of visiting Las Vegas, where the hustle and bustle of the younger generation might be overwhelming for seniors, Reno offers many of the same opportunities as well. Not only that, but Reno, past the casinos, also is home to many natural parks. Additionally, if seniors are planning a family trip with grandkids, they will be happily entertained at the kid-friendly Circus Circus.

Do Students Benefit From Hand-Holding or Strict Discipline?

I expect you to listen during my class lectures.

Here, let me help you. I can provide you with the answer.

As an educator, are you someone who is tough on students because you believe strict discipline is essential to their growth and development? Or do you believe in an approach that is kinder, much more easy-going and laidback when it comes to helping students - even to the point of being willing to give students the answers they need?

A disciplinarian is the traditional educator who upholds policies, processes, and procedures without exceptions. Those instructors are usually not counted among the favorites by students; except for those students who are excelling and find that strict discipline is necessary for them to continue to do well.

The educator who is more willing to bend the rules on occasion for students, when there is a reason or justification for the long-term benefit of the students, is the one viewed as easier to get along with and as a result - this educator is usually included on the list of favorite instructors. This instructor will also provide answers and "make it easier" for students to complete the required tasks, believing this helps students in the long term.

This is not to state that teaching students, especially adult students, must be a popularity contest by any means. What this does involve is a matter of perception. Consider how willing a student might be to receive and implement coaching and feedback from a strict instructor in comparison to an instructor who is willing to work with them. In other words, it is not about bending the rules but working with students. It is not about passing students along or giving away grades. It is about providing support and assistance.

This goes against the beliefs of many educators as there is a perception in higher education that maintaining anything other than a strict approach to teaching means you believe in handholding and coddling students. I believe there needs to be an instructional balance between the two methods and in my own practice, I have found an approach that provides this type of balance.

How Do You Focus Your Attention?

I've worked with hundreds of online faculty members over the past ten years in the role of faculty development specialist. I have also been an online educator during this time and understand the lived experience of the faculty members I have observed. What this means is that I can relate to the time it takes to manage a class, especially as an adjunct instructor. I have also worked full time during the day and taught online at night, and I make this point not as an excuse but as a reminder of the reality that many adjunct instructors face. When an instructor is running short on time, not all of the required duties and responsibilities may be met. This can even extend to working with students as they may find it challenging at times to receive assistance when needed.

Whether or not an instructor is working full time and teaching as an adjunct, teaching a class takes time - and the more students there are, the more tasks and responsibilities are vying for the instructor's attention. When there are high achieving students in a class, it almost lessens the amount of instructional work required as those students are usually the ones who do not require a lot of time and attention. The students who are under-performing are the ones who require more effort. These are the students who either benefit from receiving additional assistance, or handholding as some educators view it, or a constant reminder that they must comply with strict requirements as stated by the school and other in documents such as the course syllabus.

Is One Approach More Effective Than Another?

I know that every educator has a distinct view of how students must be addressed or managed, and it is usually based upon personal preferences and past experiences. When instructors are provided with training, it is usually procedural in nature to begin with and then expands into instructional practices. What I have not seen provided in faculty training are direct instructions that state how an instructor must manage students in the classroom. In other words, instructors are not told they must be lenient or strict. They are provided with policies and processes, and methods of instruction. Sometimes they are taught methods of interacting with students, similar to customer service training methods. The general expectation is that instructors must uphold academic policies and create an environment that is conducive to learning.

A question that often comes up is this: Why are there such diverse types of instructors? From my perspective working with faculty, a better question might be: Is one approach more effective than another?

Consider first the instructor who is a strict disciplinarian. This is someone who upholds the policies as defined by the school, such as academic writing standards and policies in place for the degree program level. This instructor makes no exceptions to the rules.

Consider next the instructor who seems very strict but in a different sense. This is the instructor who has established high personal expectations of students and their performance in class. This instructor expects all students will strive for an "A" grade and they will submit high quality papers.

The last instructor to consider is the seemingly easy going instructor who is very popular and has a flexible approach to school policies. This instructor is more willing to listen and adapt when needed, especially if a student needs a "break" or a second chance. This type of instructor is one who is willing to provide extra time and attention for students. I have worked with a few instructors who go so far as to give their students the answers or information they need, rather than help students find it. This is where the idea of handholding has become associated with an easy going instructor.

Finding a Balance Between Discipline and Handholding

Are one of the three methods described above better than the other? I do not put myself in a position to judge others; however, I can speak from my own experience to answer the question. When I began my work as an educator, I was very strict. The most effective method of learning school policies and processes was to follow them as strictly as I could. Over time, I learned what flexibility I had as an instructor and I also gained experience as an educator. From this experience, I learned how to find a balance between these strategies to become effective with upholding disciplinary processes while providing additional care, concern, and assistance.

Establishing Discipline: What I have learned is that the manner in which discipline is administered matters for my relationship with students. I can uphold every school policy and procedure just as effectively, and perhaps even more so, as someone who demonstrates empathy when compared to someone who demands complete compliance to everything I state. Students already know that there are school policies in place and their instructors are expected to uphold those policies. As an instructor, my reinforcement of the rules happens whenever there is an occurrence or a request made by a student. That is a time to listen and effectively administer the rules, or implement disciplinary action as required. I should also be familiar with my level of authority or flexibility available, with regards to making any exceptions.

Establishing Expectations: There is nothing wrong with having expectations of my students, unless I have established something unrealistic of every student. For example, it would be unrealistic for me to expect that every student will submit a well-researched and written paper that demonstrates critical thinking - even at the graduate level. A more realistic expectation might be for students to the best of their capabilities and ask for assistance when needed. The most important expectations I can establish are those concerning student performance. Students experience a great deal of anxiety about grading, especially written assignments. That is when the use of a rubric is very helpful for establishing uniform expectations with students. It becomes even more effective if I provide a rubric before the assignment due date so that students can utilize it as a guideline when editing and revising their papers. The most important aspect of establishing expectations is that they are realistic and communicated to students.

Offer Handholding: When students need assistance or extra attention and you provide it, do you consider that to be handholding? I dislike that word itself as I believe it does a disservice to the work of an educator. I understand the general idea of the concept and over time I have tried to help students without giving them information or answers. For example, when students cannot find a particular answer or resource I will provide instructions on how to find it without actually giving it to them. In other words, I teach them how to be independent and find it on their own so the next time they remember how to do it. I would never be one to tell them to "go and see the course syllabus" as a pat answer. I will find a way to help, even if it involves providing a different set of instructions that offers clarity and better directions. My roles as an educator is to instruct and to teach.

I have seen a number of discussions in the field of higher education over the past few months about working with students and more specifically, addressing the idea of coddling college students. From my experience as an online educator and online student I find there is nothing detrimental about having a lot of contact time between an instructor and the students. However, it seems there is a trend now in higher education that finds courses being delivered without instructor to student interaction. I know that MOOCs have been very popular and those students receive very little direct instructor contact. There is also a competency-based online university that is gaining traction, one without instructors that allows students to study at their own pace - and one of the primary concerns being raised is that these are correspondence-style courses.

My preference is to provide instructor to student interactions. I want to be available and accessible for my students. The following is my approach to teaching adult students that seeks a balance between strict discipline and handholding.

I will be happy to assist you and I will help you find the answers you need.

For courses that have been established in a traditional manner, with instructor to student contact, the nature of that contact is relational. An instructor can uphold academic policies and all appropriate disciplinary procedures, while still maintaining an attitude of care and concern, when an appropriate balance has been found. Students understand that instructors must uphold the rules established by the school. What this means is that a productive working relationship may be more effective than demanding compliance from students at all times. And while it is important to establish a strong working bond with students, that does not mean you need to try to become the most popular instructor either by being willing to bend the rules or give away answers. The most important job you have is to teach and the most effective approach you can embrace is one of knowing your level of authority, understanding your responsibilities, and being willing and available to assist your students.

Beauty in Language and Emerging Economies

We cannot do justice to the beauty of French by droning on with facts and figures. Nevertheless, or nanmoins as the French say, we need to have a brief idea about the origins, history, and the importance of French as one of the most, if not THE most, beautiful languages in the world.

French is a Romance language
Don't mistake this with 'the language of romance,'- which it also is! It has its roots in the Vulgar Latin of the Roman Empire. Once again, the language is not vulgar: the word embraces the 'popular' Roman dialects of the Middle Ages.

French is not just limited to being spoken in France. It is the official language of 29 countries- the members of la francophonie, the community of French-speaking countries. These were formerly French colonies spreading from the Canadian provinces of Quebec and New Brunswick, parts of Belgium and Switzerland, Monaco, and as far flung as some parts of sub-Saharan and North Africa.

40% of the Francophone population is in Europe; 15% in Africa and the Middle East!

Lingua Franca
The dictionary definition of this term is: a language that is adopted as a common language between speakers whose native languages are different.

French was the language of diplomacy and international relations from the 17th till the middle of the 20th century. That is why lingua franca (literally French language) came to denote a universal language. The United States became the dominant power at the end of WWII, and English gained ascendancy.
French is now the most influential language after English.

England's French Connection
The earliest king of England, William the Conqueror, was French!

A large part of the early English monarchy's holdings was based in France and French was the language of the English court. English nobility and upper classes were thus heavily influenced by the French and their language.

Gradually, the French nobles became English but took a fair amount of French into the English Language. Commonly used words like courier and dentist are actually French.

The British monarch's motto is in French: Dieu et mon droit which means 'God and my right.'

This short history lesson is important for us to understand why French is considered the language of sophistication and culture even today.

Each person has his/her reason why he/she feels French is the most beautiful language in the world:

#1. Consonants which end a French word are not pronounced. This is why French vowels flow with ease, and one word melts into the other. It's like music.

#2. French is ardently 'euphonic' or sounds harmonious. For example, a word that ends with a vowel sound is never followed by a word that begins with a vowel. There are precise linguistic rules that promote euphony; it is not just coincidence.

#3. French is the language of romance. A recent Google Translate survey shows that "Je t'aime" (I love you) is the most requested translation and "tu me manques" (I miss you) comes highly ranked.

#4. French is the language of love. This might have originated in the love songs sung by roaming troubadours in medieval France and transferred to England with French nobility and their court poets and singers. This is probably why the English-speaking world came to consider, and STILL considers, French to be the language when the feeling is LOVE!

#5. More emotional than rational. French creates emotions and desires, and a few phrases are enough to encourage fantasies. French is a language that appeals to the imagination.

#6. The sensuality of French is because of the accent. This maybe something that non- native speakers say because they find the intonation appealing. There are those who insist that even French swear words sound smooth and attractive.

#7. French is unique and is filled with picturesque phrases which lose their music and evocative meanings in translation. "L'appel du vide." translates literally to "the call of the void" but in French, it describes the urge to jump that people might get when they look down from a great height. Four small words convey a wealth of feeling.

#8. French is lgant, sophistiqu. Easily understood when you read. With its history, French is considered the language of the classes and the classy. When we talk of the best chefs and cooking, we use the term 'cordon bleu' (blue ribbon), and high fashion is 'haute couture.'

#9. French is full of nuances and details which make it special. "Manger les pissenlits par la racine" means to eat dandelions starting by the root.
This is a phrase for being dead and buried, an example of how colourful French is.

#10. Through the ages, French has held on to the correct way of speaking and writing. Many languages have been taken liberties. English, for example, has been twisted and maimed out of its original structure by native and other influences. "For your above, see my below" was actually an official reply to a letter in a Government Department (identity withheld for reasons of delicacy).

The importance of French translation today
Globalisation has driven businesses far across the wide world. Language is the primary means of communication: translations and interpretations have, thus, gained importance.

French is spoken in 29 countries as the official language today. Experts say that this could see a dramatic increase in the commonality and popularity of French as an international language, the lingua franca of old, in fact.

Emerging economies in French-speaking countries are coming into prominence. As their populations increase, so will the numbers of French speakers.

Research by Cardiff University shows that, as far as business and trade are concerned, English is barely enough to make the initial market entry internationally. Many markets prefer the use of French; for example, French is commonly used in trade negotiations with African countries.

Fluency in French, understanding the heart and soul of the language is important in today's world of business, literature, education and art.

Do not lose the exclusivity, the sophistication, the elegance, and the beauty of the most musical of languages by generalised machine or sub-standard translations. Use the experienced services of expert translators who will do full justice to French.

Vive le Franais. Long live French.

I am an Expert in the medium of translation and language services. I have working knowledge in documents translation, Translate from English to German,   English french translation and provide Multilingual E-mail Support.I am passionate in Localizing global brands to reach the target audience in the most efficient way.

Slush Casting for Hollow Objects

Mold making is a wide-ranging art form which invokes varied materials as well as techniques. The choice of mold making procedure depends as much on the model as the skill and dexterity of the mold maker. So is the case for the mold making materials.

The simplest form of mold is a block mold where you simply pour the mold making material over the object or statue to be replicated. Intricate shapes may require the mold to be made in two or even more parts. More complex techniques range from blanket molds and glove molds to injection molds and more.

And once the mold is ready, the artist moves on to making the final cast from the mold. Again, the choice of the techniques and materials varies from artist to artist and application to application.

A lesser known technique of making casts is the slush casting. This is a traditional method of permanent mold casting wherein the liquid casting material is not allowed to completely solidify in the mold. Once the desired thickness is obtained, the remaining material is simply poured out.

This technique comes in handy for casting hollow items such as toys, decorative pieces, statues, ornaments, components, etc.

The procedure is pretty simple in fact. The mold is placed on a flat surface so that the opening is on the top. The casting material is slowly poured into the mold opening. This could be clay slip, liquid latex rubber, molten metal (usually zinc, tin or aluminum) or even something else. The mold should be rotated a bit so that the material swirls around and completely coats the sides and bottom.

Once the material starts cooling or setting in the mold, it is turned over and the remaining material is poured out of the mold. A thin skin is left behind and this will solidify to form the hollow cast.

To form a thicker shell, the casting material simply needs to be left in the mold for a longer period. Alternatively, if the cast seems to be too thin, the pouring in and out process is repeated until the desired thickness is built up.

The cast is then removed and allowed to set properly. The cast will turn out accurate and have a smooth outer finish as well. As it is hollow, the cast is definitely much lighter than a solid metal or clay object would be.

Slush casting is usually used to make decorative bowls, vases, lamp bases, candlesticks, miniatures and so on, without the use of cores. The same process is successfully adapted to create a latex mask and other thin skin latex products as well. Cosplay costumes, props and even helmets are made using similar techniques.

Sometimes, closed molds are used for slush casting. The mold is broken apart to reveal a uniquely beautiful cast that cannot be replicated again.

And now that you know how to make molds as well as slush casts, what is stopping you from creating your own hollow ornamental objects?

Restoring The Creative Spirit - A Day In The Life Of Photography

It's been a hectic time of artistic painting creativity over the past few months. So much so that I had a hard time remembering the last time I was behind the lens! I could name a million reasons as to why I haven't picked up the camera but let's face it, they would all be excuses not reasons!

So it was with much enthusiasm and a lot of coffee that I went back behind the lens. Some images required for a small campaign for my own hometown and backyard, the Otways, Great Ocean Rd and Apollo Bay Victoria, Australia.

3AM wake-up call and packed into the car, ready for a few hours on the road.

For those of you not familiar with the Great Ocean Rd - its mile after mile of twisting, curving, winding one lane road that hugs the coast line of Victoria. Awesome if you love driving which I do. It can be a nightmare during the day when the road is usually taken with tourists, some of which aren't sure which side of the road they should even be driving on, let alone actually doing the right speed limit on hair-pin turns with a steep plunge into the ocean on one side and a cliff wall on the other.

Driving 3 hours in pitch dark blackness with nothing but the sound of the ocean coming in the window and no-one else around was an absolute joy. Nothing like getting out of your comfort zone or doing something so pleasurable to actually put your mind into the right place to be creative.

First stop, a small inlet in Apollo Bay popular with the locals for surfing. Sunrise just about to happen and the tide far enough out that I could actually walk 100 meters out into the ocean before getting close to the water and the crashing waves. A few choice clicks at the right time and back to the car it is.

A further 10 KM's up the road to a nice high spot to capture a great panorama of Apollo Bay in all its glory, with the sun still throwing up gorgeous colours.

So next up, Hopetoun Falls in the Otways. Back in the car for another one and a half hour drive into the Otways. This time, the winding, curving one-lane road was caressed by a cliff wall on one side and a sheer drop of up to 50 meters on the other right down into forest. Still early enough that all the tourists were snuggled up nice and cozy in their beds.

Even though the sun had risen by this time, darkness still fell upon the valley where the falls are. Park the car, take some time to pull out a thermos and have a luke-warm coffee before heading up through the forest trails.

Once again, surrounded by the sounds of nature and nothing else, the creative juices start pumping through my body and I can't wait to get to the falls and I'm not disappointed. Crashing water, clear crisp air and the sun just beginning to peak over the valley. Awesome views and a life-giving feeling.

Prepare the shots and angles and get the work out-of-the-way, then sit back and just enjoy the serenity and peace for a while, before the roads start getting busy.

Time to head back home - this time taking the quicker less-scenic route. Three and a half hours later back home safely with some new memories and a few choice shots of some of the most picturesque places on Earth.

I could have made up more excuses if I had chosen to, but I chose otherwise. These are the moments in life that will make you a true professional creative or just another hobbyist.

The outcome of your life is based on the choices that you've made in the past. Tomorrow's outcome will be based on the choices that you make today. What will you choose?

You don't have to worry about directions

When you are visiting a new place, chances are that you don't know the area. Even if you have visited it before you haven't mastered it. If you rent a car and decide to drive it by yourself, you may have to rely on the map or keep on asking people for directions in order to find your location. This is not only annoying, but also time-wasting.

With a chauffeur service, you don't have to worry about directions as the driver is most likely a local or has lived in the area for a long time. Due to this, he/she knows the area like the palm of his/her hand thus he/she will drive you around fast.

Translation Services, German to English: Deutsch Nach Englisch

There are around 120 million speakers of German in 8 countries around the world. German is not just native to Germany: it is the official or co-official language in Austria, Switzerland, South Tyrol in Italy, part of Belgium, and Luxembourg. It is the first language of about 95 million people and the most widely spoken language in the European Union.

German is also one of the most widely taught foreign languages in the world.

The different kinds of German
With so many speakers spread across eight countries around the world, the usage of German is bound to vary making it a pluricentric language.

If one has heard of High and Low German, one must understand that it does not refer to any social order: this classification refers to the geographical part of Germany where the version of the language was/is spoken.

Low German (Niederdeutsch or Plattdeutsch) is spoken in the low-lying area of northern Germany. It is an old form of German in use even today. Low German also made its way across the oceans to the USA, Canada, and Brazil with the Mennonites when they left Germany to avoid religious pressure.

High or Upper German (Oberdeutsch or Hochdeutsch) was originally used in the southern highlands of Germany. It was popularised because of the translation of the Bible into German by Martin Luther in the 16th century.

This kind of German became today's Standard German.

Standard German is a mixture of High German and different dialects, 'artificially' created by poets, philosophers, and scholars. When we talk of German today, Standard German is what we refer to, and this is what is taught in all language schools.

Germany: England's close cousin
German and English are part of the West Germanic language family and are closely related.

King George I of Great Britain was a German import from Hanover and, even today, the British Royal family has Teutonic (read German) heritage.

English and German are related languages but far apart as to require translation. With English being a dominant world language, it is not surprising that translators and translation services are needed to travel freely between the two languages.

Deutsch nach Englisch: What is the need for translation into English and vice-versa?

Germany: the economic powerhouse
The obvious answer is that Germany is a power to reckon with even today when the world has come to mean the United States of America to most people.

Just consider that Hitler had brought Germany to decimation- financially and morally- at the end of World War II in 1945. Today, Germany is the largest national economy in Europe with the fifth largest GDP in the world. It has risen like the Phoenix from the ashes of WW II.

In 2016, Germany had the highest trade surplus in the world worth $310 billion. This makes the country an export giant. Germany, in fact, exports $1.27 trillion in goods and services every year.

Business and trade with Germany are highly desirable. All economic activity requires contracts, correspondence, documentation and legal activity: in short, all the wheels of commerce have to be greased to cut the deals. This is not possible if communication is a barrier. Professional translation services of the highest quality are, thus, in great demand.

Germany: the centre of culture
German philosophers like Kant, Nietzsche, and Schopenhauer, have shaped western philosophy.

Mozart and Beethoven were German giants who strode the western classical music scene. Today, Germany is the largest music market in Europe and the third largest in the world.

10% of all books published worldwide are in the German Language.

German cinema, media, art and architecture, are no less renowned.

Man does not live by bread alone: the finer arts of life are what place humans as the highest form of Nature's creations. In the absence of German to English translation, we stand to lose all that Germany has to offer in this regard.

Germany: the innovator in Science, Engineering and Technology
Germany has been home to the most prominent of scientists and researchers, generating more Nobel laureates than any other nation. Einstein was a German: need more be said?

Germany is a world leader in innovation. Leading universities and research institutes spearhead path-breaking work in technology and science and work in close collaboration with manufacturing and major engineering giants.

If the Arts are important to an elevated life, the sciences and engineering innovation are important to life itself.

The free to and fro flow of knowledge and information is impossible without German to English translation. Such translation has to be accurate, knowledgeable, and well researched: only an expert is capable of such a task.

Germany: home to mammoth manufacturers
Germany is a huge manufacturing hub. Who hasn't heard of German-made automobiles? Mercedes Benz, Daimler, Porsche, Volkswagen, and BMW are brands that make your heart beat faster.

Pharmaceutical companies like Bayer and Siemens, sporting superstar Adidas, and Faber-Castell stationery are the very tip of the German manufacturing iceberg, though hot properties in the global scene as well.

Want to trade with the Germans? Being two-tongued takes on new meaning.

In conclusion, it must be stated that the world not only needs to interact with Germany but wants to. We cannot divorce the popularity of a language from the favourable global perception of the country of its birth. In other words, German is a sought after language globally because its Vaterland is a favoured country.

A global opinion poll by the BBC revealed that Germany is the second most respected nation in the world among FIFTY countries and that it has had the most positive influence in the world since 2011.

Still any doubts about the importance of German to English translation?

Orlando Vacation Home Vs On-Site Disney World Hotel

More Space

Sure, your hotel room may possibly have the newest television next to a tiny couch and pearly white sheets on each of the beds, but is that really on the top of the priority list when it comes to finding a great place to stay? The small square of a room with a small couch that can barely hold all of you at the same time is simply not going to be comfortable. When you rent a home or a villa*, you are automatically guaranteed more space for the kids to run around and have fun in. You will save yourself the headache of feeling cramped and overcrowded and allow for more space to be taken advantage of within the home.

A Full-Size Kitchen and a Laundry Room

Often times hotels provide the typical mini fridge packed with a total of two water bottles and enough room to fit one of the four take home boxes you just brought back from a restaurant down the street. However, when you decide to rent a home you are given a full kitchen with a stove, oven, and large fridge. Most vacation homes have a laundry room, which is a great thing when you are traveling with kids. Having a kitchen will also save you loads of money because it allows you to cook your own meals and not have to dine out for all breakfasts, lunches, and dinners.

The Price Comparison

If you are having a hard time deciding whether the first two reasons for staying at a home or villa instead of an onsite Disney World hotel, maybe the price comparison will sway your vote. The price for one room in the most affordable hotel inside Disney is around $85.00. The price for a unit with a kitchen and a laundry room for one night ranges anywhere between $250-$500. Now, the price for one night of a home or villa nearby all the main attractions can be as low as $100 per night! Plus, when it comes to the hotel/resort rooms, you are going to be tacked on any additional fees that they see fit.

Short List of Cons

After thinking, contemplating and researching all of the before mentioned reasons as to why you should or should not rent a home the next time you are in Orlando on vacation, you may very well find that the list of pros far outweighs the list of cons. The cons being that you, of course, cannot walk straight out of your hotel and be a few steps from Disney parks, which is the main reason why people forego the rental homes and villas idea. Another con is that if you do have kids who need to take several breaks during the day of excitement and fun, you will most likely have to take a car that you rented and head back to the home. Though these are often minor and again, make up a shorter list compared to the many pros of renting a home, you will just have to decide for yourselves what the top priorities will need to be.

When Price is not an Issue

If you are not on a tight budget than booking a nice on-site resort or a villa is the best idea yet. Disney truly knows the meaning of the word "luxury". You can find an amazing place to stay on-site, which will be "THE experience" on it's own. Disney is one of the best at separating you from your money, so this "experience" will come with a price tag.

Whether you choose to stay at one of the Disney resorts or a vacation home near the park, arrange your transportation in advance. Are you renting a car (the #1 choice for families renting a villa/vacation home) or using Disney shared shuttle (cheap, but not very convenient option)? If you are looking for a stress-free vacation - book a private transfer. There are dozens of companies that offer private transfers from Orlando airport to Disney area. STAR TRANS-VIP os one of them. The company offers private transportation from Orlando airport to Disney World area hotels and resorts, villas and homes.

Learning About Our Baby Milky Way From Galaxies Far, Far Away

Our Milky Way Galaxy is only one of billions of other galaxies in the Universe. Nevertheless, it is very precious to us because it is our planet's home--and when we stare up at the night sky, far away from the lights of a city, we can observe it as a starlit smile from horizon to horizon, telling us that we are a small, but special, part of something immense, majestic, and mighty. Long before our Sun and its retinue of planets, moons, and smaller objects were born, our Galaxy had to form in the mysterious primordial swath of Space that emerged in the wild exponential inflation of the Big Bang almost 14 billion years ago. But, how did our Milky Way form, long before our Sun was here, before our Earth was here, and before observers were around to witness this magnificent beginning? In March 2017, astronomers announced that by observing the early stages of Milky Way-like galaxies inhabiting the distant, ancient Universe, they were able to peer back in Time, to discover how our Galaxy formed long, long ago.

For decades, astronomers have discovered remote galaxies in the ancient Universe by spotting the characteristic way their gas absorbs light traveling out from a bright background quasar. However, efforts to detect the light emitted by these same ancient galaxies have mostly met with failure. Now, a team of astronomers using the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile, has observed emissions from a duo of distant galaxies first discovered by their quasar absorption signatures--and the results were not what they had expected.

First, the emissions caused by star-birth within the distant galaxies were separated by a surprisingly great distance from the dense gas revealed by the background, tattle-tale quasar absorption. This indicated that the ancient galaxies are embedded in an extended halo of hydrogen gas. The estimated stellar birth rates were also surprisingly high.

"We had expected we would see faint emissions right on top of the quasar, and instead we saw bright galaxies at large separations from the quasar," explained Dr. J. Xavier Prochaska in a March 23, 2017 University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC) Press Release. Dr. Prochaska is a professor of astronomy and astrophysics at UCSC, and coauthor of a paper describing the new findings published in the March 24, 2017 issue of the journal Science.

Quasars are exceptionally bright active galactic nuclei (AGN) that are the swirling accretion disks surrounding supermassive black holes in the early Universe. As unfortunate material--shredded stars, perhaps, or clouds of doomed gas--tumble down into the waiting maw of the supermassive beast, destined to become its dinner--the material becomes hotter, and hotter, and hotter, as well as brighter, and brighter, and brighter. Supermassive black holes dwell in the secretive hearts of perhaps every large galaxy in the Universe--including our own Milky Way--and they sport masses of millions to billions of suns. In our Galaxy's early youth, it's resident supermassive black hole may have been surrounded by a brilliantly glaring quasar, hurling its powerful and intense light out into the space between galaxies.

A Starlit Spiral In Space

Our Milky Way Galaxy hosts about two hundred billion stars, as well as an untold number of other objects. When observed with binoculars on a clear, dark night, it is a breathtaking sight, with literally thousands of stars doing a sparkling and mesmerizing dance in Space in each field of view.

Our Galaxy has been studied extensively by astronomers, and currently our ideas about its nature are built upon a more solid foundation than when our ancient ancestors created lovely myths and stories to explain this celestial starlit band's existence.

Before our Milky Way formed, the Cosmos was brimming with mostly hydrogen gas--as well as smaller amounts of helium. The gas was ultimately converted into blazing stars, their retinues of planets, and conscious beings, such as ourselves, on Earth--and probably elsewhere. However, before all of this could happen, the Galaxy had to exist.

The Milky Way Galaxy in which we currently dwell is a very different place than the frigid gas from which it emerged billions of years ago. In its early days, our Galaxy was a spherical mass of hydrogen. However, today astronomers using radio telescopes have been able to determine that our Milky Way is a spiral galaxy--just one of countless others. Nevertheless, because we are inside our Galaxy, astronomers cannot observe it as a whole. The good news is that we can peer out into space and observe galaxies which we believe may be similar to our own.

Disk galaxies, which also include galaxies with magnificent, beautiful starlit spiral arms, like our Milky Way, as well as those with somewhat less well-defined characteristics (lenticular galaxies)--are all defined by their possession of pancake-shaped domains of dust and gas that separate them from their elliptical gallactic kin.

According to galaxy classification, spiral galaxies, like our own, are composed of rotating, flat disks populated by stars, gas, and dust, as well as a central collection of stars called a bulge. These are surrounded by a much more faint halo of stars, a number of which are denizens of globular clusters. Spirals are named for their possession of spiral arms that reach out from the center into the disk. In contrast, elliptical galaxies possess an approximately ellipsoidal shape and a smooth, nearly featureless brightness profile. Ellipticals, in contrast to their highly structured and well-organized spiral kin, are more three-dimensional, and have little in the way of structure. Indeed, the stellar denizens of ellipticals bob around in, more or less, random orbits surrounding their centers. Lenticulars are intermediate between spirals and ellipticals, and they share kinematic attributes with both galaxy types. Lenticulars are frequently referred to as "armless spiral galaxies." This is because they possess a bulge--but no spiral arms.

According to the bottom-up theory of galaxy formation, large galaxies eventually attained their gigantic and majestic sizes as a result of collisions and mergers between relatively small protogalaxies bouncing around in the baby Universe. The most ancient galaxies furiously produced blazing, brilliant newborn stars.

Before the first stars ignited, lighting up the vast swath of darkness that was the primordial Universe, opaque clouds of primarily hydrogen gas collected along the heavy filaments of the Cosmic Web. The filaments of the massive Cosmic Web are generally thought to be composed of dark matter--an unidentified substance that is not the atomic matter that we are used to in our familiar world. Atomic matter accounts for literally all of the elements listed in the Periodic Table, but this so-called "ordinary" form of matter is extraordinary because it is the stuff of stars, planets, moons, and people. "Ordinary" atomic (baryonic) matter accounts for a relatively small 4.6% of the Cosmos, while the mysterious dark matter is much more abundant at about 24% of it. The lion's share of the Cosmos is composed of the weird dark energy, that is even more mysterious than the dark matter. Dark energy accounts for about 71.4% of the Universe, and it is commonly thought to be a property of Space itself--and it is just as important as it is mysterious, because it is causing our Universe to accelerate in its expansion.

In the very ancient Universe, dense areas composed of dark matter grabbed at floating clouds of pristine gas with a relentless and powerful gravitational grasp. Dark matter does not interact with "ordinary" atomic matter or electromagnetic radiation except through the force of gravity. However, because it does dance with baryonic matter by way of its gravity, and it warps and bends the path that light takes as it wanders through the Cosmos (gravitational lensing), it gives away its phantom-like presence--despite its haunting, eerie transparency. Gravitational lensing is a phenomenon proposed by Albert Einstein when he realized that his calculations indicated that gravity could warp the path that light takes through the Universe, and thus have lens-like effects.

Transparent and invisible, the ghostly dark matter clutched at clouds of pristine gas. These clouds of primeval gases evolved into the nurseries of the first fiery newborn stars to scream out their victorious birth cries, as they hurled their fierce light and the possibility of life out into what had previously been a barren blackness. The massive filaments composed of the dark matter spun the Cosmic Web throughout Spacetime--and this web tugged and tugged on its atomic prey until the clouds of newly formed gas tumbled down to nest within the invisible halos of the mysterious dark matter. The gas clouds floated down into the very hearts of these ghostly, transparent halos composed of the transparent non-atomic material.

Gradually, majestically, the writhing sea of primeval gases and the ghostly dark matter, flowed throughout the ancient Cosmos. The two forms of matter performed an ancient dance together, ultimately combining to create the distinct and familiar large-scale structures that can be observed today. The regions of greater-than-average density within the filaments of dark matter, weaving the magnificent Cosmic Web, traveled throughout the newborn Cosmos and became the "seeds" from which the galaxies were born and grew. The relentless gravitational tugs of those ancient "seeds" gradually pulled the pristine gases into ever more tightly bound blobs. Many astronomers propose that these blobs of gas began to collect together, and that the resulting protogalaxies, both large and small, danced a wild dance creating ever larger and larger galactic building blocks. The protogalaxies did their bewitching dance, moving ever closer and closer together because of their mutual gravitational attraction, merging to create ever larger and larger structures destined to grow into the enormous, majestic galaxies inhabiting the Universe today. Like tiny chunks of wet sand, being mashed together in the small hands of a playful child sitting in a sandbox, the protogalaxies bumped into one another and stuck together to create a cosmic sand castle.

The early Universe was much smaller than what we are used to today--and, as a result, it was very crowded. Therefore, the protogalaxies frequently bumped into one another in this relatively small and crowded environment--sticking together to create larger and larger galactic castles in Space and Time.

Learning About Our Baby Milky Way From Galaxies Far, Far Away

The team of astronomers, using ALMA, observed that the neutral hydrogen gas-- revealed by its absorption of quasar light--is probably a portion of a large halo or extended disk of gas surrounding the distant galaxy, explained first author of the new study, Dr. Marcel Neeleman, in the March 23, 2017 UCSC Press Release.

"It's not where the star formation is, and to see so much gas that far from the star-forming region means there is a large amount of neutral hydrogen around the galaxy. We don't know if it's a large, extended disk of gas that's falling in, or if it's just a really dense halo of gas around the galaxy," Dr. Neeleman continued to explain.

One of the observed distant galaxies shows an emission spectrum that indicates the presence of a rotating disk, according to Dr. Prochaska. "These galaxies appear to be massive, dusty, and rapidly star-forming systems, with large, extended layers of gas. These observations give us terrific insight into how galaxies like our Milky Way looked 13 billion years ago," Dr. Prochaska added in the March 23, 2017 UCSC Press Release.

Dr. Prochaska noted that the new research paper represents the victorious conclusion of a long quest that he first embarked on back in 2003, with his doctoral thesis advisor at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), the late Dr. Arthur M. Wolfe (also a coauthor on the current paper). Dr. Wolfe (1939-2014) pioneered the use of quasar spectra to study concentrations of neutral hydrogen gas in the remote Universe, termed the damped Lyman-alpha (DLA) systems. This is because those particular systems showed characteristic absorption features that the hydrogen gas imprints on the traveling light emanating from the background quasar. Dr. Wolfe also understood the potential for ALMA to spot emissions from these systems long before the radio observatory's completion in 2011.

"We've been wanting to do this for 14 years. The 'holy grail' has been to identify and study the galaxies that host the hydrogen gas we see in quasar spectra, and it took a facility with ALMA's capability to do it," Dr. Prochaska noted in the March 23, 2017 UCSC Press Release.

The team of astronomers used ALMA to hunt for far-infrared emission signatures originating from the galaxies that they already knew could be distinguished from the bright light of the quasars. Ionized carbon emits a bright spectral line at a characteristic wavelength in the infrared (158 microns), which astronomers can use as a tracer of galactic structure in the ancient, distant Universe.

In astronomy, long ago and far away are synonymous. The more distant an object is in Space, the more ancient it is in Time. This is because the speed of light sets something of a universal speed limit--no known signal can travel faster than light in a vacuum, and the more distant a celestial object is, the longer it has taken for its light to travel to where it can be detected by observers on Earth. This results from the expansion of Spacetime.

The ALMA astronomers also observed emissions from dust in the far infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. This enabled them to estimate the rate of star-birth.

ALMA's configurable array of radio antennas helped the astronomers focus their search for galaxy emissions in the region around each of a duo of DLAs, situated at a distance of approximately 13 billion light-years. From that very remote distance, the traveling light now finally reaching telescopes gives astronomers a precious peek into an early stage of galaxy formation, that occurred about 1 billion years after the Big Bang.

"This is the epoch when galaxies were really starting to take off in terms of star formation--sort of an adolescent growth spurt before reaching the peak of star formation about 2 billion years later," Dr. Prochaska explained in the March 23, 2017 UCSC Press Release.

The observations strongly suggest that both galaxies are giving birth to baby stars at moderately high rates, with a star-formation rate greater than 100 suns per year for one galaxy, and about 25 suns per year for the other. The separation from the quasar is about 137,000 light-years for one galaxy and about 59,000 light-years for the other.

According to Dr. Neeleman, astronomers have assumed that spotting light emanating from galaxies that host DLAs is difficult because it is well-hidden in the powerful light coming from brilliant background quasars. However, when taking into consideration the large separation of these galaxies from their tattle-tale quasars, it may be that they are instead shrouded by an obscuring veil of dust. With ALMA, the astronomers were able to detect the starlight absorbed and then reradiated at longer electromagnetic wavelengths by the blanket of dust.

Dr. Prochaska is looking forward to obtaining similar observations of a much larger sample of galaxies over the next few years.

Modern Data Centre - A Foundation to Success

A Data Centre stores and manages data of any organisation. These days this is considered to be one of the most important management in any business. It promotes security and reliability of any information. Additionally, it operates with extreme efficiency enabling rapid and on-time operations. Thus, the need of a data centre is currently focused on for the stability and effective working of an organisation.

With emerging importance of an IT Centre, the need for service managers, engineers, project managers, specialists etc have drastically increased. To have a data centre with highest ratings in terms security, performance, and disaster management a well equipped and qualifies management team is highly important. Keeping up the requirement of a larger data centre usually turns out to be tricky due to pioneering technologies and service delivery models.

Few benefits offered are as mentioned below,

There are a number of benefits of a Data Centre as mentioned below:

1.  Long term and secure data storage
The traditional way of data storage is not in vogue. Businesses look at the accessibility of data that is integrated and on-demand. With no compromise in terms of security, one can be consistent in meeting its objectives.

2.  Up gradation and control over IT
The protocols and the management strategies can be made and modified as per the utilisation and the expected performance. It is far easier to controls the patterns and tracking the utilisation.

3.  Full proof recovery options
Since the data can be conveniently backed by the server the vital components can easily be tracked and traced for the continuity of the process. It simplifies the entire process even in terms of any unforeseen circumstances.

4.  Greater performance and management
Being compliant promotes long-term success. Thus monitoring and ensuring guidelines is important regardless of the size of the data. Eventually, it promotes smooth operations, dependability, and reduction of resources. All modern data centres and very careful about this,

Things to be considered in its workings

The success of an organisation invariably depends on how smooth the operations are whether small or big. Mentioned below are few points to be considered,

1.  Continuous efforts in improvements in recovery and data protection should be considered as an integral part

2.  A regular check on whether the back ups are working or not should be monitored to avoid any failure and effect on production systems

3.  Optimisation of infrastructure to meet the specific needs and the trends of a data centre must be regularly upgraded

4.  Tracking the effective synchronisation when the version moves from one to another

The term Data Centre can be a small set up or a multi-storage facility its workings, maintenance and facilities have to be designed in a way that enhances smooth workings of IT operations. Few of the most important or rather critical components of a Data Centre are:

1.  The IT equipment in use
2.  The electrical infrastructure
3.  The utility grid
4.  Monitoring configurations
5.  Cooling options
6.  Efficient and planned management

Protect Your Photography Investment - Consider an Unplugged Wedding

In this tech-savvy world, sharing the minute details of everyday lives through social media has become the norm. The modern generation is obsessed with their phone cameras, mostly selfies that they love to share with everyone. It's obvious that people are going to use their smartphones and cameras to take photos at a wedding too. However, the use of personal mobiles and cameras at weddings can be a distraction, taking the guests away from the moment and detracting from the importance of the day. Occasionally although not often a self-styled photographer will go so far as to take away from the skills of the professional wedding photographer by literally standing in front of them and hijacking the shot. Being present in the moment is becoming a lost pleasure. This seems to have been the catalyst for many couples in opting for an unplugged wedding.

What is an Unplugged Wedding?
A wedding where the bride and groom request the guests to switch off their electronic devices such as smartphones, cameras, camcorders, tablets, etc. and be fully present in the moment. A professional wedding photographer then has carte blanche of the ceremonial photos.

A few benefits of having an unplugged wedding are listed here.
• A wedding is a once in a lifetime event and any kind of distraction can detract form the importance of it. An unplugged wedding will have fewer distractions and the guests will be fully present in the moment and not busy taking pictures, chatting, or replying to social media posts.

• It will be difficult to control the distribution of your wedding photos when you have your guests taking photos of this personal moment and sharing it on social media. You do not always want the photos of your wedding posted on Facebook 2 minutes after the I do's.

• Guests trying to take photos of the special moments such as the exchange of rings, vows and first kiss may end up spoiling the photo taken by the photographer. Although this doesn't happen often, they can detrimentally affect the background and occasionally obliterate a photo with an ill-timed flash.

• Another point of note is the distracting sounds that multiple cameras can make, again this isn't often a big problem but with that hard of hearing uncle with his phone volume turned up to CLAXON mode the Bizet of has the potential of overtaking the moment.

You can inform the guests about the unplugged wedding in advance by adding a polite note with your wedding invitation or with an announcement before the wedding ceremony. This way you are inviting them to be there with you on the most important day of your life and still making sure that you protect your photography investment.
