Good,, Bad, and Trans Fats and the Health Risk They Pose

What many don't realise is that fats are essential for good health. The brain, for instance, is contains fat, but it is the good one and not that which can kill you. As people age they become more susceptible to weight gain and the large stomachs seen in many. The fat around their middle is from bad fats that usually come from things like sugar and trans fats.

Alcohol is the same as sugar in its molecular component. In other words, sugar breaks down into the same structure as alcohol and this is why beer drinkers end up with what is described as a 'beer gut'. But that is not trans fat but the product of a normal digestive function whereby the 'sugar' overloads the liver and turns into fat.

In that case one may end up with a fatty liver and possibly pancreas leading to cancer of the organs. It also leads to diabetes and loss of limbs, eye-sight, and heart disease, among other things.

Then there are the trans-fats and these are normal fats that have undergone transformation due to heat. They take on extra molecules of hydrogen during the process and that makes them virtually indigestible by the liver so that they are laid around the vital organs.

The worst practice comes from super heated and oft heated oils. They are found in commercial ovens where deep fried fish and vegetables are produced. They are the in many of the snack foods people are addicted to while the warning that should accompany them is that they can lead to diseases, as described above, and even death.

Have You the Confidence to Speak Up?

There are times when we could kick ourselves aren't there! There was something we wanted to say, an opportunity to join in and contribute, but we hesitated and the moment passed. Irritatingly someone else may have even then inadvertently offered our pearls of wisdom and received a great response. If only we'd had the confidence to speak up!

At work finding the confidence to speak up can be a mixed blessing. If we put ourselves out there, with all that it entails will we then be regarded as someone who doesn't toe the line, a trouble maker or a know-it-all? Some people fear voicing opinions at work; might there be reprisals, could it jeopardise their promotion prospects, put a 'black mark' next to their name? As an employer it's important to provide an environment where staff feel safe to share ideas and concerns, knowing they'll be taken seriously.

Or, even worse, might something said be perceived as stupid or inappropriate and result in being ridiculed? Meetings and presentations can be especially vulnerable situations for someone who's feeling low on confidence. The prospect of standing up and having to speak out loud can be daunting.

In family and social settings many people prefer to avoid confrontation and keep quiet or go along with things, choosing it as the safest option. And, indeed, there are times when smiling and saying nothing is a preferred course of action. Not everything needs to be debated or analysed. But over time not speaking up can change a relationship's dynamics and affect its balance. Having open, respectful channels of communication can mean that nothings simmering or left unsaid and everyone feels included and valued, able to say what's on their minds.

The potential downside is that speaking up in close relationships can have long-term implications. Things said cannot be unsaid and may be taken out of context or used in future situations. Whether hurtful things are said deliberately or not it can make for ongoing unpleasantness. Or what about those times when we do speak up offering a valid point of view or when we don't agree and then find we're labelled difficult, awkward and uncompromising.

Tips for finding the confidence to speak up;

- When you've a meeting or presentation on the horizon improve your confidence by practicing speaking to a fake audience. Also this is a worthwhile exercise for when you've an anticipated difficult conversation ahead. Identify your key points and say them out loud so you're rehearsed, clear and au fait with the gist of what you want to say. Some people like to record themselves so that they know what they sound like and can refine how authoritatively they come across.

- Make time for things you do well and boost your confidence. That way, if you're stuck in a difficult situation at home, school or work you've got activities where you receive recognition, positive feedback and satisfaction. Could sport, a hobby or volunteering bring some happiness and joy into your life and result in improving your quality of life?

- Are people in your life drains or radiators? Some people drain your confidence and joy for life. They only ever see the bad, cannot be supportive, are maybe jealous of you and your enthusiasm and drive. If you can't avoid them be sure instead to protect yourself from too much exposure and minimise the time you spend in their company. Refuse to join them in negative or draining exchanges. Try to mix with people who radiate positive qualities like confidence, who share your outlook, who are equally committed to their dreams and encourage and support you in yours.

- Occasionally challenge your point of view by inviting other perspectives and discussing any contentious issues you may have to deal with. There may be another side to the story. Be prepared to consider different points of view, constructive criticism and feedback. A clearer thought process can improve your confidence.

- In disagreement situations own how you're feeling rather than blame others. It gives you a more confident stance. 'When this happens I feel', is far more constructive and less antagonistic than, 'you make me feel', which can cause the other person to feel under attack and become defensive. Avoid using lots of examples. They can distract and generate a merry-go-round of explanations, justifications and counter-claims.

- A neutral place is often a good idea when there's a difficult conversation to be had. It keeps a discussion on track and avoids it becoming loud or escalating out of control. You can stay calm and hold onto what you have to say without losing confidence or being concerned at things 'kicking off'.

- Sometimes a mediator can be useful, but has to be someone who both parties respect. Yes, there are professional negotiators available, but sometimes a trusted friend, neighbour, colleague or religious leader is able to do a good job and keep discussions relevant.

If confidence issues regularly surface consider hypnotherapy to deal with associated matters. Some people fear confrontation, want to be liked, are wary of upsetting others. Therapy can help you deal with any background factors like childhood influences or previous relationships, remedy underlying concerns, and enable you to move forward, so finding ways to speak up calmly, appropriately and with confidence.

Receivable Financing Problems: Here's What Really Matters

Receivable financing problems grow out of the need for a businesses inability to grow cash flow as you run and grow your business. One strategy we recommend to clients is to grow cash flow and ' lose money'. That's not a trick statement of course, and when business owners understand several forms of receivable finance
via invoice factoring can solve their challenge they want to know more. Let's dig in!

A/R financing is a source of working capital - it's not debt or a loan per se. In technical terms it's the sale, or ongoing sale of your A/R generated out of your sales. That transaction is accomplished via a ' discount' basis, typically in the 1 to 2 per cent per month basis if you're on top of your collections. That's where ' the loss' comes in - it's a financing cost but at the same time has delivered all the cash flow you need. Suffice to say your business should be able to handle that 1 or 2 per cent drop in gross margins with the result being - Cash Flow!

Invoice factoring allows you to run and grow your business, sell more by taking on being orders and contracts, and also has the unique ability to allow you to negotiate solid supplier prices. Why? Because you have the cash!!

This form of receivable finance is used by almost every industry in Canada. Even those Bay Street boys use it also - they apply a fancier name - Securitization.

What then are two major benefits of this method of Canadian business finance. It's simply the ability to get a cash advance on your sales and of course the quick turnaround- typically 24 hours! Bottom line - pretty well same day funding

Yes factoring is more expensive than Canadian chartered bank financing = that's the perception. But that must be balance against the hard reality that thousands of businesses do not qualify for all, or even some of the cash flow financing they need. And when you're carrying a/r 60=90 days even that bank credit line doesn't help.

The best form of account receivable cash flow financing? We call it Confidential A/R Finance - You bill and collect your own receivables, reaping the benefits and eliminating disclosure.

We're open enough to say that the majority of firms who in fact entertain receivable factoring can't get financing elsewhere, particularly at their bank. But don't forget also that many instances involve firms such as yours who are growing too quickly or who have landed that ' big contract' or order.

It's at this time that business owners appreciate the fact that their net worth, profitability, debt coverage, or operating losses aren't under the microscope anymore. And your firm is free to explore other methods of debt financing outside your A/R assets.

Effective Jethro Differentiation and Optimal Organizational Strategy: Pondering Policy Implications

How do organizations assign power and authority? How do organizations assign tasks and functions? How do organizations assign resources and personnel? What is the correlation between organizational structure and strategy? Does structure determine strategy or does strategy determine structure? The answers to these strategic questions are critical to the formulation of effective organizational strategy and optimal differentiation-horizontal and vertical that allows organizations to create and sustain competitive advantage in the global marketplace.

In this review, we examine some pertinent and extant academic literature on effective organizational strategy and optimal organizational differentiation that facilitate and sustain competitive advantage in the global marketplace. As noted in the relevant academic literature, organization's strategy is its plan for the whole business that sets out how the organization will use its resources-tangible and intangible to accomplish stated goals and objectives while organization's structure is the way the units of an organization are integrated internally. Organizational structure also describes the connections with its external environment-corporate publics, and planned outcomes. For an organization to execute its plans efficiently and effectively, the strategy and the structure must be internally consistent and integrated seamlessly.

Further, organizational design is a formalized process of integrating people, resource, strategic and operational intelligence, and technology across an organization while organizational structure addresses the questions: Who does what and who reports to whom? Indeed, organizational structure is the formal distribution of power, authority, and roles in an organization designed to achieve goals efficiently and effectively while organizational behavior is the study of the way people interact within groups. The study of organizational behavior is designed to create more efficient and effective organizations. The central idea of the study of organizational behavior is that a scientific approach can be applied to the management of power, authority, tasks, processes, employees and responsibilities.

In the extant academic literature, differentiation is the series of processes that organization uses to assign power, authority, resources-tangible and intangible and employees to achieve its strategic and operational goals. The processes of differentiation determine the relationships between managers and employees. Horizontal differentiation occurs as managers and employees receive their assignments for various tasks and vertical differentiation describes assignment of power and authority within an organization.

As first postulated in Exodus, Jethro differentiation: Vertical differentiation is the process of allocating power and authority while horizontal differentiation is the process of allocating tasks and functions within an organization. The process of horizontal differentiation begins with delegation of specialized tasks to employees. This form of differentiation averts an organization from having only one employee or a few employees assigned to carry out multiple tasks. The process also allows the organization's managers and employees to specialize and stay within tasks related to their field of expertise.

The process of vertical differentiation involves the establishment of a "chain of command" among employees and managers. Vertical differentiation segregates management into strategic, executive and transactional while horizontal differentiation segregates employees into functional areas: Operations; research and development; accounting and finance; marketing and sales; and human capital management.

Some Operational Guidance

In practice, while organizational structure focuses on the entire organization, strategy formulation and implementation involves assigning individuals to tasks and timelines that will help an organization reach its stated goals and objectives. A well-designed organizational structure can streamline operations, improve decision-making, facilitate employees' cooperation, collaboration and performance. Efficient and effective strategy formulation and implementation requires a good fit between organizational strategy and structure.

Differentiation and Integration

Generally, organizations use differentiating mechanism to assign employees to different tasks and functions while integrating mechanism is used to coordinate different units and employees to ensure that everyone is working toward efficient and effective accomplishment of organizational goals and objectives.

When an organization effectively bring its different units together under a visionary leader or coordinated strategic direction, an organization is said to be well-integrated. Integration leads to a unified and cohesive organizational structure. Successful organization selects between differentiated and integrated organizational structure depending on industry structure-degree of competition, stage of industry life cycle, its competitive position, leadership and resources-tangible and intangible.

There is substantive and gathering empirical evidence in the relevant academic literature suggesting that successful organizations tend to be more differentiated and integrated than less successful organizations. As organizations grow, they evolve and differentiate into more and more functional areas: Operations; research and development; accounting and finance; marketing and sales; and human capital management.

Structure and Strategy

Organizational structure improves strategic and operational efficiency by providing clarity to employees at all levels of an organization. Efficient and effective organizational structure encourages collaboration and facilitate performance of functional areas of an organization by focusing time and energy on productive tasks. In addition, well-designed organizational structure plays an important role in strategy formulation and implementation. Therefore, organizational structure is critical to an organization's success, addressing the who, what, when, where, why, and how of reaching desired goals and objectives. Moreover, organizational structure determines how power, authority, resources, roles and responsibilities are planned, coordinated, controlled, and assigned, and how information flows among the different levels of organizational management: Strategic, executive and transactional.

Finally, successful organizations implement strategic coordination among its various units to leverage synergistic opportunities inherent in any strategy. Indeed, to out-perform their competitors, successful organizations must design appropriate structure and formulate optimal strategy that maximize its profit or benefit producing capacity while minimizing the cost of operations simultaneously.

In sum, a well-designed organizational structure that is properly aligned with organizational strategy is required to create and sustain competitive advantage in the global marketplace. Whether organizational strategy is shaped by industry structure as posited by structuralists or industry structure is reconstructed by organizational strategy as postulated by reconstructionists, the most critical requirement is an effective alignment of organizational strategy and structure, ceteris paribus.

Permanent Cosmetic Tattooing

Is permanent cosmetic tattooing permanent? If you are asking does it last a lifetime? No. Most tattoos for the eyebrows, eye liner, lip lining, and coloring of lips and facial cheeks last one to five years. Maintenance is scheduled monthly or yearly.

The reasons people want permanent makeup includes:

Time saving

Lack of hair

Desire to cover scars

Not physically able to apply makeup for various medical reasons.

Who performs permanent makeup applications.

Before you consider a cosmetic procedure check your state and local laws. Some states have regulations for this industry and some do not..

Someone is going to inject tinted dyes into the upper skin layers of your face you need to do your research. Be sure to check your technicians qualifications, certifications, and training. These technicians may work in salons, doctor's offices, and hospitals. You do not want an untrained amateur doing any of these procedures. After selecting the individual that is to create cosmetic details on your face, check for cleanliness in their surroundings. Ask about the inks, procedure, and the tools they will be using. Say "yes" only after understanding and agreeing to all that has been explained.

The Federal Drug Administration regulates the ingredients in the ink. Your state and local governments control education, certification, and licensing requirements.

Permanent makeup artists have often been tattoo artists before entering this field. Legitimate operators do pursue an education in permanent makeup application, safety, and other health regulations.

Tattooing and Permanent Makeup Application Complications:

Infection

Allergic reactions

Removal problems

Granulomas and keloids

MRI complications

This list of infections is provided by the Federal Drug Administration.

Before beginning procedure:

Eyebrows, eyelids, and lips are very sensitive and tender facial areas. Are you able to tolerate any discomfort during and after the procedure and healing process?

Gather references on the considered practitioner

Be aware of negative side effects

If they should occur is your technician knowledgeable of treatment remedies

Understand care and maintenance schedule

Will the style chosen be in season for many years or will it date you?

The body changes with passage of time; so does the tattoo.

How to remove:

Today lasers are used to remove permanent cosmetic tattoos. Traditional tattoos are removed with many other methods depending on the size, depth, and types of inks used. Laser treatments may take 1-5 treatments to remove, and several weeks for fading and healing. It is about a 3-4 month treatment program.

Federal Drug Administration

Sate and local health departments are responsible for permanent makeup and tattoo businesses. Before considering any procedure, visit your state and local health departments for questions and concerns which you may have.

Record their contact information if help is needed after completing the procedure. The Federal Drug Administration is only responsible for the ingredients in the colors. To report reactions to your procedure contact http://www.fda.gov/MedWatch or call 1-800-332-1088.

God’s Provision

TODAY’S VERSE
And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Self-reliance. Isn’t that the modern-day dream? Actually, it has been that way since the beginning of time. And “faith” seems to go right along with it. We have all sorts of faith when things are going well. But is it faith in God or self-reliance? The answer comes when money, health or relational situations start to falter. When things start to fall apart, do we? Does our “faith” go south, and fret, worry and fear start to occupy our minds? If so, listen to what Paul is saying. “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” We have a God who loves to provide all our needs. He wants to lavish us with His loving provision. So today, when we feel threatened, when we consider bad news, when something comes up that goes straight to the pit of our stomach, let us stop and consider what Paul wrote, “God will supply all your needs from His glorious riches.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father forgive me when I become self-reliant and forget that it is You that provides everything I need. I need You Lord and I thank You that You will supply all my needs today from Your glorious riches.
AMEN

Comfort In Grief

Shout for joy, you heavens; rejoice, you earth; burst into song, you mountains! For the Lord comforts his people and will have compassion on his afflicted ones. (Isaiah 49: 13)

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. (Matthew 5: 4)

Yesterday was a rough day; the past few days have been. We memorialized the life and buried the body of Carmen Sandifer, a dear family member who was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident last Saturday afternoon. She will be missed terribly.

I’ve been reflecting on the beauty of the Lord’s personal, individualized comfort for grieving loved ones.  When your circumstances warrant anything but peace, God Himself is peace within you.  He generates within you a strange peace that far exceeds logic and understanding.  He is hope, letting you know that the pain won’t be this intense forever and that He will walk right with you through every part of your present and future.  He is your provision, so that no matter what or whom you have lost, He will bring the supply of exactly what you need when you need it.  Our God is the God of all comfort! (II Corinthians 1: 3)

So what is comfort really?  The dictionary says, “the easing or alleviation of a person’s feelings of grief or distress.”  When you dig a little more deeply into the original language, . you find, “consolation in time of trouble or worry, solace, a feeling of relief or encouragement.”  Elements of the word also allude to strength.

So the comfort God gives is more than just feeling a little better in the moment.  The comfort that the Lord provides is deep and life-changing.  Not only does He gradually alleviate the pain, He does not waste the crisis as raw material for blessings. .  Even life’s events or people’s choices that were never His will can be divinely and miraculously turned and used for your good.  (Romans 8: 28)

Cling to Him desperately, listen to Him intensely, and learn to see your new world through His eyes.  He was not caught off guard.  He hasn’t had to hurriedly come up with a contingency plan.  He has known all along, and His plans for you, despite what has happened, have been in place a very, very long time.

Grief can stubbornly linger and seem as if it will never go away.  However, if you are a person who is mourning a loss, receive the promise of Christ Himself.  You shall be comforted.

Dear Jesus, the Word says that You are personally acquainted with grief and that we have a High Priest Who understands.  That’s a comfort in itself.  I give You permission to touch me deeply, to teach me significantly, and to heal and strengthen me as only You can.  I throw myself into Your embrace, and I draw on Your comfort, my God.

He Has Overcome The World

“In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
The will of God will never take you where the grace of God cannot keep you. His power is ever-present in your life as His child.
If I could have been there in the days of His flesh, I would have wanted to see Him walk across the sea and calm the waves. I can just see that kingly form with the wind in His hair, putting His foot steps on the sea, His garments billowing back. Smiling at the storm.
When the disciples saw Him walking on the water what was their biggest problem? The water. Jesus in essence was saying, “What looks like is going to be over your head, is already under My feet.”
What are some problems that are drowning you in fear, in discouragement, in sadness today? Give them to Jesus. Remember what is over your head is under His feet.

The Eternal Fact

And all who trust him—God’s Son—to save them have eternal life . . .
—John 3:36 (TLB)

Currently, Christianity is being compared with other religions as never before. Some so-called Christian leaders even advocate the working out of a system of morals, ethics, and religion that would bring together all the religions of the world. It cannot be done. Jesus Christ is unique. Why insist on the uniqueness of Christ? What did Christ bring into the world that had not appeared before? The Christian answer is that He is the supreme manifestation of God. “God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself” (2 Corinthians 5:19). This is the eternal fact of our Christian faith.

Prayer for the day

Beliefs come and go, Lord Jesus, but You remain—unchanging—for You are the Son of God!

The Journey Of Preparation

Today’s Word With Joel & Victoria Osteen – The Journey Of Preparation

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE:
A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps. – Proverbs 16:9, NKJV.

TODAY’S WORD:
Oftentimes, God will use our experiences in life as stepping stones to prepare us for what He has in store next. Scripture tells us that He’ll even take the things the enemy tries to bring against us and turn them around and use them for our good. He is always leading us on a journey of preparation.
That’s why it’s so important to keep our eyes focused on Him. We have to trust that when we are submitted to Him—even if we don’t understand—He is ordering our steps. If something is not happening on your timetable, remind yourself, “God knows what He is doing. He has my best interest at heart. God is preparing me.” While you’re waiting, don’t make the mistake of trying to figure everything out. If you’re constantly trying to figure things out, that will only frustrate you. Turn it over to God. Declare, “God, my times are in Your hands. I’m not going to worry because I trust that You are leading me on a journey of preparation for all the wonderful blessings You have in store for me.”

PRAYER FOR TODAY:
Father, thank You for Your goodness and faithfulness in my life. I trust that You are leading and guiding me. I trust that You are preparing me for all the wonderful blessings You have in store for me in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Be Careful What You Think

Be Careful What You Think

In the early days of computers, they used to say, “Garbage in, garbage out.” That was a way of explaining that the computer only worked with the data put into the machine. If we wanted different results, we needed to put in different information.

With computers, most people have no trouble grasping that concept, but when it comes to their minds, they don’t seem to get it. Or perhaps they don’t want to get it. So many things demand their attention and beg for their focus. They’re not just sinful things. The apostle Paul said that although everything was lawful for him, not everything was helpful (see 1 Corinthians 6:12).

If you are going to win the battle of the mind and defeat your enemy, where you focus your attention is crucial. The more you meditate on God’s Word, the stronger you’ll become and the more easily you’ll win the victories.

Too many Christians don’t realize the difference between meditating on the Bible and reading the Bible. They like to think that whenever they read God’s Word, they’re absorbing the deep things of God. Too often people will read a chapter of the Bible, and when they get to the last verse, they have little idea of what they’ve read. Those who meditate on God’s Word are those who think—and think seriously—about what they’re reading.

They may not put it in these words, but they are saying, “God, speak to me. Teach me. As I ponder Your Word, reveal its depth to me.”

Psalm 1 begins by defining the person who is blessed, and then points out the right actions of that person. The psalmist wrote that those who meditate—and do it day and night—are like productive trees…and everything they do shall prosper.

The psalmist made it quite clear that meditating on and thinking about God’s Word brings results. As you ponder who God is and what He’s saying to you, you’ll grow. It’s really that simple. Another way to put it is to say that whatever you focus on, you become. If you read about and allow your mind to focus on God’s love and power, that’s what operates in you.

The apostle Paul says it beautifully in Philippians 4:8: ...whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart] (AMP).

It’s sad, but most Christians don’t put much effort into their study of the Word. They go to hear others teach and preach, and they may listen to sermons online and read the Bible occasionally, but they’re not dedicated to making God’s Word a major part of their lives.

Be careful what you think about. The more you think about good things, the better your life will seem. The more you think about Jesus Christ and the principles He taught, the more you become like Jesus and the stronger you grow. And as you grow, you win the battle for your mind.

Prayer Starter: Lord God, help me think about the things that honor You. Fill my life with a hunger for more of You and Your Word so that in everything I may prosper. I ask this through Jesus Christ, Amen.
