Importance of Maintaining Viewing Distance While Watching TV

By Khushnud Khan

Whenever we plan to watch a movie in the theatres, most of us will definitely prefer seats somewhere in the middle, rather than sitting right at the front or way back at the end of the theatre. While it is not exactly the same when it comes to watching TV, we will still search for that prime place which will make watching TV a good experience. What we exactly want to feel is the essence of a horror movie or an action movie, without straining our eyes or suffering a headache.

While this fact is not true that sitting too close and watching TV can cause permanent damage to eyes, it can definitely cause strain which leads to blurry vision. Most people try to squeeze the biggest screen in their homes; however if your room is small, then it is not a smart idea. One must maintain a proper viewing distance while watching TV based on the screen size. In general, it is recommended to maintain a distance almost 1.5 to 2.5 times the diagonal screen measurement away, with about a 30-degree viewing angle. For example, if you have a 40" TV, you should be sitting somewhere between 5 and 8.3 feet away from the screen.

So, why is it important to maintain a proper viewing distance while watching a TV?

The basic reason to maintain a proper viewing distance is to avoid eye strain and headache. Excessive eye strain can cause blurry vision which might cause some minor eye-sight problem in the future. Apart from maintaining a proper viewing distance, you must also watch TV in a proper lighted room. Watching TV in wrong lighting gives rise to unnecessary eye strain as the eyes have to work hard to see the image. Thus, the proper viewing distance should be combined with right lighting to avoid eye fatigue and strain.

Thus, how far should you sit while watching the TV?

Consider watching your TV from a distance of five times the width of the TV screen. So watch a 42" HDTV from 15' away. The 15' feet distance was a bit far. However, if you feel that too far, maintain a 10-12' distance on the 42" HDTV. Again, if you are watching a 52" TV, maintain a distance of 6.5' - 10.8' (2.0 m - 3.3 m) from the screen.

Hence, as a piece of advice use your sense and move away from the TV if your eyes start hurting. Make sure to watch TV from a distance that will enable you to read texts comfortably on screen without glaring or straining your eyes.

Clowns Are No Laughing Matter These Days

By Anthony Maguire

Once upon a time, clowns were benevolent figures of laughter and joy.

In the late 1950s and early 1960s, American children followed the animated antics of the Bozo the Clown on television each week. The cartoons were introduced by local presenters made up as the carrot-topped Bozo. One was Willard Scott, later to become weatherman with the NBC Today show. Willard Scott was also the first-ever Ronald McDonald, making his debut appearance in a 1963 TV ad for the burger franchise.

Flash forward ten years, to Cook County, Illinois (interestingly enough, the location of one of the first McDonald's restaurants). A character calling himself Pogo the Clown is a popular attraction at community events. Meanwhile, young men keep going missing...

Underneath the clown makeup and clothes is a psychopath named John Wayne Gacy. In between appearances as Pogo he strangles to death 34 victims. He doesn't wear the clown outfit when he kills, but his alter-ego of Pogo forever shifts the image of the clown in popular consciousness. Almost overnight, clowns become scary, with Gacy paving the way for numerous portrayals of bad clowns in literature and film, most notably Stephen King's It.

King's novel came out in 1986 and was a huge seller. In 1990, his nightmare creation, Pennywise the Clown, was brought to the small screen in a miniseries. Also in 1990, a Florida woman, Marlene Warren opened her front door to a brown-eyed clown bearing flowers and balloons. The clown shot her in the face and drove off in a white Chrysler. The clown's victim died two days later. The killer, a woman, eluded capture for over a quarter century, but now she's serving time for murder.

The nineties and noughties saw chilling portrayals of The Joker, the green-haired prankster in the Batman franchise, by the likes of Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger. Plus we met Krusty, the degenerate clown in The Simpsons.

But it wasn't until 2016 that Caulrophobia - the fear of clowns - reached truly fever pitch. In the latter part of that year, the world was gripped by a wave of 'scary clown' sightings. In the lead-up to Halloween, social media sites received numerous postings about sinister-looking clowns who were reported lurking first in forests, then in a host of urban locations in the US, UK, Australia and a number of other countries. It got so bad that the president of the World Clown Association, Randy Christensen took to YouTube to condemn people dressing up as clowns to frighten people. "Whoever is doing this crazy stuff is not a clown," stated Christensen, a Minnesota-based party clown. "This is someone who is using a good, clean, wholesome art form and distorting it.' Christensen added that members of his association had suffered job cancellations and felt under threat following coverage of scary clown sightings.

It all got too much for McDonald's. On October 11, 2016 the burger giant announced that its mascot would be keeping a lower profile as a result of the incidents. A spokesman said the hamburger clown was cutting back on appearances at community events as a result of the "current climate around clown sightings in communities."

There was a kneejerk reaction from other corporate entities like Target, which took clown masks from its website and stores. Schools as far apart as Ohio, USA, and Otago, New Zealand, banned clown outfits and masks.

Cut forward to Halloween night, Monday October 31, 2016. Caulrophobia had taken such a terrifying hold in the United States that large numbers of both householders and the parents of trick or treaters had firearms at the ready that night.

Fearing vigilante retribution, most clowns kept a low profile that witches' eve. Not so in Orange County, Florida, where two men needed medical treatment after being attacked by a group of 20 people in clown masks. But other than that, Halloween night 2016 seems to have been a bit of a fizzer in the scary clown department, given all the hype leading up to it.

Flashing forward now to May 2017. A bald, bespectacled man fronts a court in Nova Scotia, Canada. He is Dale Raincourt, aka Klutzy the Clown. He pleads guilty to the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl over a six week period. The judge jails him for two years and bans him from ever working as a children's entertainer again. Another nail in the coffin for bona fide clowns trying to earn an honest living.

Then in the fall of 2017 came the big budget cinema production of It. Pennywise was back, scarier than ever! The film proceeded to do very brisk business indeed at the box office, with the biggest attendances ever for a September-October release.

So where does that leave the benevolent, child-friendly clown of yesteryear? Well, a lot of them have hung up their clown outfits and wigs for good. Others have strategically re-aligned themselves in the marketplace, promoting themselves as "balloon artists" and avoiding all use of the "c" word.

And poor old Ronald McDonald has been put out to pasture in most parts of the world. On a recent trip to Thailand, I did encounter his life sized effigy outside a McDonald's in Bangkok. He had his palms pressed together in a "wei" greeting. Alternatively, he might have been praying, appealing for divine intervention as the clown joins the ranks of vampires, zombies and other denizens of our worst nightmares.

Author of this article, Anthony Maguire, has written a novel called True Madness, about a killer clown who terrorises a female TV reporter. Watch out for a blue-haired clown on the book stalls and websites!

A Guide to Scheduling A Newborn Photography Shoot at Your Home

By Jermaine Amado

For a 33 year old that does not have any children, I sure do know a lot about babies! How, you ask? Baby photography! I have been a baby photographer for over 13 years. They are my specialty, my joy, and my life.

When I started newborn photography I had to learn how to hold a baby, soothe a baby, stay calm, and familiarize myself with facial expressions. I would often look at them and think, "I wonder why they are smiling like that". And then you hear a sound... from the diaper... a wet sound. I imagine parents, other photographers, and everyone who works with babies can relate to this.

After a few years of newborn photography, I decided to create a guide to help new parents and photographers alike to help prepare for the photo shoot if the photo shoot takes place at the clients home. All my newborn photo shoots are taken at my clients' homes because it's the most comfortable place for a growing family.

Without further ado, here is the guide born from my frequently asked questions about a newborn photography shoot...

1. When should we schedule the newborn photo shoot? Schedule your newborn photography shoot within the first two weeks of the due date. This is just a tentative date and will likely change depending on the baby's arrival. If you have a C-section then the date is pretty set unless the baby comes early.

It's best to capture babies around 5-14 days while they sleep and have the newborn look. Having said that, there are no guarantees with newborns. They do what they please. I have done photo shoots at 6 days. Some cooperate and some don't. I have done photo shoots at 4 weeks. Some cooperate and some don't. Either way, they're all wonderful!

2. What happens if my baby is late? Contact your photographer and play the date by ear. If the baby is early, don't worry about contacting your photographer right away. Enjoy the new member of your family! Contact them within the next couple of days and let them know that your baby is here.

3. What temperature should the house be? The day of the photo shoot I suggest to have the house at a good warm temperature. We will be sweating but the baby will be comfortable. You might not need the heat on during summer though. The little ones don't like to be too hot or too cold.

Keep in mind that most of the poses will be of the baby in their diaper, naked, or whatever you discussed with your photographer. Walk around your home and think about the settings/backdrops that might work out best in terms of lighting. Usually, photographers like to setup in the room with the most natural light. But also important rooms like the nursery, your bedroom, the living room, and the yard if it's a nice day.

4. When should I feed my baby? Try and time it so that you are almost done with the feeding or completely done by the time the photographer arrives. A happy baby equals a sleepy baby. Sleepy babies are awesome! Also, bear in mind that we might feed the baby a little outside their schedule to keep them calm.

If you wanted your baby in a wrap, diaper cover, or possibly naked then I suggest to take their clothes off (but keep them in their diaper!), wrap them up in a blanket, then start to feed them. The less we move them around after they have a full belly, the better.

5. What do I do if my baby is sleepy right before the photo shoot? Sometimes your baby will be asleep before we arrive and before the feeding. Try to keep them up by changing them or maybe a nice bath. You want your baby to be tired during the photo shoot, not before

6. How long will the photo shoot last? The length of time would all depend on the photographer and the baby. I have completed newborn photo shoots in an hour and upwards of 4 hours. If the baby is awake during the photo shoot, it's OK! Photos of your baby alert and awake are magical!

7. What props should I have ready and does the photographer bring any? Most of the props and hats that I personally utilize in my photography shoots belong to the baby. The picture will hold a different meaning if you utilize your own hats, blankets, books, and/or other props. Also, don't forget all the gifts that you baby will receive. Using gifts from friends and families makes these photos extra special.

I hope this overview helped answer some of your questions. Good luck and have a great photo shot!

What Makes Drupal 8 The Best Choice for Business Owners? Know The Reasons

By Prince N

A dynamic and powerful content management system is something that every website needs to satisfy the users and also to remain competitive in the market. Various organizations choose to use Drupal development and switch over to the latest version of the software while many others have converted from the competitor open source software like WordPress, Joomla and etc. because of the added functionalities that comes together with the Drupal 8 platform. However, there are various considerations related to upgrades, security features, requirements that you should know before selecting Drupal for your website.

Customizable and scalable:

The latest Drupal version and its modules can easily be customized and scaled as per the business requirements and this helps to contribute to the growth, improvement and innovation of the business. The RESTful API easily connects with other apps and helps the developers to use JSON or HTML for faster and secure data transfer. The latest version also supports multilingual capabilities on the back end and this enables to build sites that can quickly translate them into various other languages.

Authoring experience:

Earlier authoring in Drupal was extremely consistent and was entirely dependent on the efforts of the developer to make writing and editing easy. Out of the box, Drupal had nothing much to offer, but the wide range of modules can be put together to make a wonderful editing experience if the developers took initiatives. But Drupal 8 has come up with a good user experience right out of the box and the authoring environment has also been revamped and is based on extensive usability testing and has the capability to match or beat other CMSs in the market.

Mobile experience:

Drupal 8 has come up with various features that helps to easily manage the site from any smartphone. The responsive experience works well for a wide range of devices and so you don't have to create a separate mobile site. Drupal 8 development makes it a great platform to serve content to mobile apps, web apps or any other place where you want specific data. The "Headless Drupal" is supported and this means that whatever application the users use; it can pull data from Drupal without visiting the site itself.

High growth potential:

Another reason behind business owners choosing the Drupal development platform is that it has hidden strengths to change and help your organization grow. You can easily start developing your start up business with a very small or a basic brochure site and then gradually keep adding features, workflows, scheduling systems, ecommerce groups and etc. to make it feature rich and fulfil your specific business purpose. The latest version of Drupal now uses much more standard industry practice of dependency injection and object orientation and this ultimately makes the end results far more reliable and dependable with fewer conflicts.

Matured platform:

Drupal has been a popular CMs for creating arbitrary databases of content online and bigger organizations have always appreciated the strong group and role capabilities to manage permissions, workflows and access. It had some structural problems that made it difficult to troubleshoot conflicts, make any upgrades and even experience different ways to complete the same task. But with Drupal 8, things have changed and the core has been replaced with an object oriented system that has made upgrades easier. Today, it is a matured platform offering varied features and functionalities to both the users and the developers.

The Drupal 8.4 beta release:

The latest release has added additional improvements and stability giving the developers and site builders the chance to upgrade to the latest version. Drupal has come up with improved tools for content authoring, performance and scalability, site administration and developer experience. Drupal 8 had certain file usage tracking bugs and Drupal 8.4 has disabled the automatic deletion of files. In the earlier versions, data from draft revisions, books and menus could leak into the live site and this issue is fixed and also similar problems in the Content moderation module.

If you are looking for a website that offers strong features and functionalities, then    hiring a Drupal 8 expert developer can bring your business on track and offer better prosperity and growth.
