Why Not Teach Kids To Think Again - Well, Because The Teachers Aren't Smart Enough To Do It

We have a problem in academia, namely that to become a teacher you are required to go through the system and get at least a Bachelor's Degree. Why is this a problem, you ask? Simple, it means after all those years your mind is boxed into a certain way of doing things, and now those old ways are not working very well, thus, we are doomed to repeat the holding back of the human mind moving forward. Since you are the teacher, you've only learned one way of teaching, the one you experienced and now believe this to be best, which is not an impartial thought process, nor is it all that logical. Yes, let's talk because you probably disagree with my overall premise, but I ensure you, this is an intellectually based observation and it is worth more thought on your part.

We need to teach our kids to think, and to do that we must foster their sense of curiosity early and often, allow them to explore, ask questions, come up with creative solutions and original thoughts. Incidentally, have you ever met a kid who keeps asking you why, after every answer, and at the end you get down to; "because that's how fundamental particles are held together" - I always found it unfortunate that college professors couldn't answer my questions, yet felt themselves wise enough to grade my answers.

I mean if the professors don't know they subject backwards and forwards and can't answer questions as per Richard Feynman's doctrine - in simple layman's terms - then they didn't know it well enough to be teaching me. I always found in business that you have to know everything about your business better than anyone else, competitors, customers, employees, regulators, investors, etc. - because your livelihood depended on it, whereas in academia all too often that simply isn't the case. Maybe it's just the 80/20 rule or the 80/20 rule of the 20% and so on until you get down to decimal points.

Problem in academia is there isn't a lot of accountability for the finished product and forced testing just makes short-term memory cramming to the point of absurdity until no one remembers anything that was poured into their skulls siting in nice little rows bored to death. Since technology and human society is moving fast, we cannot assume that we can teach students what they will need to know in the future, we need to teach them to be adaptable, creative, and to logically solve problems.

These students should not be trained to just follow authority, yes, some of that is needed, but we must teach them to think, challenge, and that means we cannot kill their innate curiosity to ask questions, as that may be their best asset moving into the future. Please consider all this and think on it.

What Will The Future Of War Look Like?

As a Science Fiction, Future Technology, and Military Tech writer, I often get asked about the future of war. Interestingly enough, our near future isn't hard to predict 5-10 years out, but the further out you get the harder it is. Luckily, my batting average in prediction is fairly robust, comparatively speaking against other self-proclaimed futurist types. Recently, I was interviewed on the topic and I feel my answer might be enlightening, revealing and upbeat, so, let's explore this for a moment shall we?

Interviewer Mr. Casillas asks; "How do you think wars will develop in the future?"

There is a very good likelihood that humans won't have wars in the future, and before you call that statement nave, I'd like to point out that everything I see is a progression towards abundance, peace, prosperity and ascendance to a higher state of cognition with humanity fully actualized. I see future virtual reality allowing the individual to create choices far beyond what is possible today under our current way of life.

No, I am not a crazy New Age wannabe spiritual guru asking you to send me money and to follow me on Facebook, what I am saying is that folks like Ray Kurzweil and the Singularity Institute have it mostly correct. No, their predictions are not perfect and yes, humankind will fall down and get back up a few more times before we get there, and yes, it will cost us twice as much along the way, and take us 3-times as long to get there, but that's where we are headed. Give it another couple hundred years, and there won't be any more wars.

One good thing about wars today is that wars are not killing millions of people, most of the recent wars have been surgical strikes, precision attacks on command and control personnel (or terrorist leaders), facilities, or small groups with some collateral damage and civilian casualties but far fewer than before. Smart bombs are better than the 'drop them and forget about it' bombs of the past.

My predictions on future wars, you ask? Well, let me take a stab at it based on my studies. One challenge we will see in the future is robotic systems going out and killing entire human armies, then we will see a global agreement to ban it because human populations will demand that. Then we might see robots fighting robots, with the loser giving in to the argument that started the political impasse.

Then we will see nations agreeing to arbitrate by way of virtual war gaming, multi-player VR (virtual reality) video games. No one actually dies, but heroes (best players of the game) are rewarded by their civilizations with accolades.

Humankind will eventually learn that "diversity is to be celebrated" (not forced) and without any scarcity in the world due to advancing technology, there will be so few things to fight over, and wars will seem like such a stupid thing that humans used to do. And, whereas, we humans, even us human+ types seem to be innately territorial, we will overcome this with our enhanced intellect and knowledge, joining as one in a common cause; to live or lives to the fullest and share our endeavors with one-another. And like I said, I am not coming at this from a spiritual awakening, I am not into that stuff, it is just where I see this all going, from everything I study, read and research, it is the inevitable future - and really for our sake, the sooner the better.

Personally, although weapon systems technology is a place I like to think, and it is highly rewarded in the present period, I doubt that future human beings or our improved selves will spend a whole lot of time thinking about it. You see, there is a whole new world out there, if we dare to take it. I'd like you to think on this, and for today; Don't Hesitate - Be Great!

Dangal - A Must Watch

I must acknowledge that after a long time I felt I received value for the money after watching this inspiring movie. The sports drama film based on the real-life journey of India wrestler sisters Geeta and Babita Phogat is compelling to watch for several reasons.

Dangal, meaning a wrestling competition offers a riveting story, will fascinatingly captivate your attention until the end, overthrowing your prediction as to what will happen next. Well, while we watch movies, we have a tendency to point out very often, implicitly if not explicitly, where the story line is heading. Although you might me knowing a bit about the story revolving around India's first ever gold medal in women's wrestling "Commonwealth Games 2010", the movie takes you to interesting insights into the arduous journey of two wrestling sisters Geeta and Babita.

A recap of wrestler sisters' historic wins at the Commonwealth Games and their stubborn father Mahavir Singh's resolve to make them professional wrestlers against the odds, the movie offers many surprises. The fight between Geeta and Mahavir roles holds your breath.

Mr Perfectionist did not struggle to find the awesome real life tale. The actor-producer-director's famous Satyamev Jayate saw the two sisters on its show when the wrestlers briefly explained their journey and their father's role in the success. Babita recalled how Karnam Malleswari's win in 2000 inspired her father to prepare the two for gold medals.

The comedy was light but very timely. Aamir nephew's humorous narration, and comic acts by different characters were really funny, and hold your attention, making you smile whenever these characters appear on the screen. Credit goes to the writing by Director Nitesh Tiwari, along with three others Piyush Gupta, Shreyas Jain and Nikhil Mehrotra.

The music was awesome, particularly the title track of the film. High on the energetic vocals of Daler Mehendi, the song makes up for a good hear. Pritam does a fairly good job as composer.

The acting was stunningly performed by the lead characters. Thankfully, Aamir did not take complete space on the screen. The performance of the lead roles, whether child actors or adult roles of Geeta and Babita played by Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra, was most intense. The climax makes you feel you are watching a live match. The winning moment was nail biting.

Overall, the movie was good to watch with the family. I give 4/5 stars.

The History, Present and Future of Aerial Photography in India and The Rest of The World

Aerial Photography refers to capturing shots with the help of an airborne camera. A sea change has been witnessed in the field of Aerial Photography during the course of over 14 decades of its glorious history. Back in 1858, a French photographer named Gaspard-Flix Tournachon, for the very first time, succeeded in carrying out a session of Aerial Photography with the help of a hot air balloon tethered at the height of 80 meters. Unfortunately, none of those priceless shots has survived to this day. Two years later, in 1860, Samuel Archer King and Wallace Black captured Boston from a height of 630 meters. Fortunately, this aerial photo has survived, and it now goes by the name of Boston, as the Eagle and the Wild Goose See It.

Initially, Aerial Photography was carried out with the help of pigeons, kites rockets and balloons. In 1897, Alfred Nobel became the first human being in the world to succeed in capturing an aerial photo with the help of a rocket-mounted camera. Nine years later, in 1906, George Lawrence captured San Francisco before and after the infamous earthquake. Lawrence succeeded in carrying out this session of Aerial Photography with the help of a 49-pound camera mounted to the height of 2000 feet with the help of a train of as many as nine kites. L.P. Bonvillan, in 1908, captured the very first aerial photo from an airplane. During the first World War, detailed maps were prepared with the help of Aerial Photography.

Fortunately, the professionals did not take a long time in making pigeons obsolete in this regard, but the use of kites and balloons for mounting the camera to the desired height continued, and a few professionals still use it for the same purpose. However, manned planes and drones, these days, are the most popular carriers of aerial cameras.

Drones are preferred by most of the professionals over their manned counterparts owing to the ability of the former to capture equally good shots without involving a whopping amount of money.

The lighting conditions in the area that needs to be captured with the help of a drone should be perfect. In this context, 'perfect' refers to reasonable light. Contrary to popular belief, too much of sunshine isn't healthy for drone photography. According to most of the professionals, the best time for carrying out Drone Photography is just before the sunset. The quality of the concerned lens should be superlative since it invariably plays a vital role in deciding the fate of each and every aerial shot. It is highly recommended to refrain from using drones for photography on days when it's raining, snowing or windy out there no matter how advanced the concerned drone may be since the results will, almost always, be disappointing.

Drones are popular not only popular because of the reasonable cost involved with them but also because of their versatility. The duration for which a drone can stay airborne varies from model to model, and a drone either comes bundled with or without a built-in camera. So, coming across a drone that fits the bill no matter how specific the need may be is always easy.

The use of gimbals in drone photography is recommended since they enable the drone-mounted camera to capture stable footage. These days, there is no dearth of drones that can capture footage in 4K and this is one of the reasons why the concerned shots are detailed in nature.

These days, filmmakers in all parts of the world have started to use drones for capturing stunning footage that looks great on the big screen. So, the reliance on land-based cameras has now started to witness a decline in filmmaking that isn't drastic, but reasonable won't be an inappropriate word to use for the same. Such a decline is also being witnessed in many other fields.

One of the most important applications of Aerial Photography is in the field of Disaster Management. Drones can easily capture clear footage of any area that is difficult to access via foot. The same drones also facilitate the rescue operations by capturing the areas that are severely hit by natural disasters like earthquake and flood. Drones, these days, are also being used for monitoring the construction of any illegal structure to ensure that they can be demolished as soon as possible.

Most of the builders in all parts of the world have started to use drones for coming across the most conducive sites for carrying out the intended construction.

For carrying out Aerial Photography in any part of the world, you need to comply with the guidelines laid down by the concerned authority and India is no exception to this fact.

The most important guidelines laid down by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation for carrying out Aerial Photography in India are as follows:

1: A drone flying in India needs to stay in the Visual Line of Sight.

2: Drones in India are prohibited from flying in controlled airspace.

3: It is mandatory for all the operators in India who want to fly a drone at/above 200 feet above ground level in the uncontrolled airspace to have an Unmanned Aircraft Operator Permit issued by DGCA.

4: A drone flying in India should have a Unique Identification Number issued by DGCA.

Visit the official website of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to make yourself aware of all the concerned guidelines in detail.

For carrying out Aerial Photography in Australia, the operators need to have a certificate as well as a license issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority. In Australia, drones that weigh under 2 kilogramme can be used for commercial reasons.

In the United States of America, the Federal Aviation Administration only allows the operators who are licensed pilots to fly a drone. The operators should always keep the drone in the Visual Line of sight and ensure that everyone in America stays unharmed with such operations. Visit the official website of the Federal Aviation Administration to acquire the awareness of the detailed guidelines.

The United Kingdom is considering to come up with reasonable laws for the individuals who wish to carry out Aerial Photography, but as of now, there are just a few guidelines that need to be complied with for carrying out the same. Currently, anyone in the UK can buy and fly a drone that weighs less than 20 Kilogramme. The drone should always be in the Visual Line of Sight that refers to the height of 400 meters. For flying a drone beyond the 400-metre mark, the operators need to have the formal permission from the Civil Aviation Authority. The drone should maintain a distance of at least 150 meters from any area that is flooded with people. A drone in the UK can't be used for commercial purposes. Visit the official website of the Civil Aviation Authority to know about all the guidelines in detail.

In Ireland, the operators need to register all the drones weighing over 1 Kg with the Irish Aviation Authority. While flying, all the drones in Ireland should always maintain a distance of at least 5 Kilometres from each and every aerodrome. A drone is prohibited from flying in a civil airspace or an airspace controlled by the military. Visit the official website of the Irish Aviation Authority to know about all the guidelines in detail.

In India, Aerial Photography doesn't date back to many years in the past, and therefore, it isn't as popular as it is in a few other parts of the world, but the awareness of this acclaimed method of capturing shots is now spreading at a gradual pace. A considerable number of Indians have now realised that Aerial Photography is better than its land-based counterpart in many ways and this is the reason why they are now more interested in the former than the latter.

Aerial Photography is playing an important role in the growth of India's tourism sector by tempting millions of people across the globe to pay a visit to a large number of monuments, shrines and many other tourist destinations in India at least once. The growth of India's real estate sector also owes a lot to the impressive shots captured through drone-mounted cameras since they have proved to be successful in encouraging the potential buyers towards the piece of land that has been put on sale.

An impressive number of business houses across India have now started to use the aerial footage for advertising their products and services, and they are happy with the results.

Aerial Photography in India is expected to witness a surge in the number of takers in the future because the number of service providers in the concerned field is increasing and consequently, the cost of availing Aerial Photography services is expected to come down to the point when most of the Indians will call it affordable. Currently, despite being interested, a lot of Indians can't afford to opt for Aerial Photography.

AerialPhoto.in carries out Aerial Photography in India at the most reasonable cost. The requirement of the clients is always prioritised no matter how specific it may be and sincere efforts are made to eliminate the possibility of missing a deadline. It has carried out sessions of Aerial Photography in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and many other parts of India and we have never failed in delighting our clients. Our team of professionals have acquired rich experience in using drones for capturing stunning photos and videos and the presence of the most advanced drones and tools at their disposal ensure that our clients are never disappointed with the results.

Drone Photography in India is helping individuals as well as business houses in many ways. Drones have succeeded in ensuring the success of many advertising campaigns carried out across India by capturing excellent shots. While carrying out Drone Photography in India, we always comply with all the guidelines laid down by the DGCA for operating a drone to ensure that no one's safety gets compromised. Opt for AerialPhoto no matter how small or big the concerned assignment may be and we assure you that you won't regret the same.

Actors - Can Social Media Help You Get Cast?

Social media is literally changing the way projects are cast. All other things being equal, if three actors are up for a role on a big project, chances are the actor with a substantial following will nab the role. This means that if you're a savvy actor, you'll start building your social media empire BEFORE you're up for a series regular.

If you're like some of my clients, the thought of using social media for your acting career can be completely overwhelming. I'm here to tell you - don't panic! Here are four simple steps you can use to get your social media mojo started, giving you a leg up on the competition!

1. Start Small

There are many social media platforms to choose from, but my advice is to start with one and get really good at it. If you're already using Facebook anyway, why not start there? Do you love taking photos? Try Instagram! Maybe Twitter is more your speed. No need to overload yourself right away. You can always add another once you've got the first one down.

2. Create a Plan

This is where you can get creative! Keeping your actor brand in mind, think about some themes that you would like to post about regularly. For example, do you have a charity that you work with? Do you like to make people laugh? Are you a foodie? You can also repost or retweet other people's content, and give them a shout-out. Of course, don't forget to post your acting successes, too!

3. Make a Schedule

Once you have some daily themes in mind, it's time to schedule your posts for the week. I recommend using a free app like Bufferapp.com or Hootsuite.com. I've found that scheduling daily posts ahead of time (for the week or the month) is much more efficient than trying to post every single day.

4. Be Social!

It's called social media for a reason, so be sure to spend a little time every day responding to your likes, retweets, mentions, and other people's posts. Reciprocation goes a long way, so keep the dialogue going with your peeps!

5. Watch the Clock

Be careful not to fall down the rabbit hole. Social media sites are made for you to kill time, so be mindful of how you're spending yours. Fifteen minutes a day is all that's needed to stay social.

Air Show Adrenaline Rush

It's air show season again and what better way to show support for your country and military than going to the show. If you've never been, you're missing out on an awesome experience. To see it on T.V. is one thing but to feel the concussion from jet engines at full throttle is quite honestly, a bit scary at times - but what an adrenaline rush. Not only is there entertainment in the sky but also on the ground. Warplanes of various types and years are on display with all but the most 'TOP SECRET' ones offering up-close tours, including walk-throughs. Also on the ground are military-themed concessions where you can purchase food & drink, souvenirs and other goods that help support platoons, battalions, military branches and the military as a whole. The unarguable highlight of any air show is the finale with the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds Flight Demonstration Squadrons. They represent the apex of flying skill and military professionalism.

The Navy Blue Angels consist of 8 beautifully contrasted blue and yellow F/A-18 Hornet warplanes, and a C-130 support plane named "Fat Albert". Blue Angels pilots represent the best-of-the-best in flying skills and military training. Each one has over 1,250 tactical jet flight-hours and an aircraft carrier qualification. Their home base is in Florida but they call California home during the off season. The Blue Angels bring over 70 years of aviation excellence to every show. Their mission is to showcase the pride and professionalism of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps by inspiring a culture of excellence and service to country through flight demonstrations and community outreach. That statement taken from their website definitely earned an, "OO-RAH!".

The Airforce Thunderbirds consist of 8 red, white and blue F-16 Fighting Falcon warplanes with a blue Thunderbird on the belly. Like the Blue Angels, they fly in a precisely choreographed six-plane delta formation with sometimes only a few feet from wingtip to wingtip. They also represent the best the military has to offer. Thunderbirds pilots perform approximately 40 maneuvers in demonstrations that last more than an hour at each air show. The main purpose of these military flight squadrons is to instill confidence in our military and support recruiting and retention programs.

There are an average of a half-dozen military air shows in California per year, one of the most popular being the Miramar Air Show in San Diego. Most are held on Air Force Bases with some being sponsored by cities. Most air shows span 2 full days on a weekend and here's the best part... they're FREE. Unless you choose to pay for grandstand seating, bring a picnic blanket, cooler with water bottles, folding chairs and sun shade. A hat and sunscreen wouldn't be a bad idea too - these shows take place in open areas during hotter months. Air shows are a perfect place for children but get them earplugs because it gets progressively louder as the jets come out later in the day. Be sure to show your support and thank the men and women who keep our country safe and those of our allies.

Visit http://www.carevealed.com to read more about air shows in California. Upcoming air shows include:

Mar 25-26 - Lancaster

May 6-7 - Travis AFB, Fairfield

Sep 23-24 - Miramar, San Diego

Sep 30 - Huntington Beach

Oct 7-8 - San Francisco Fleet Week

Technology Makes Pressure Canning Safe and Easy

Not Your Parent's Pressure Canning

I remember my mom pressure canning jellies and jams when I was a kid. We would go as a family to pick blackberries and she would spend hours in the kitchen making jelly. She used a stovetop pressure canner that scared the entire family. We all feared an explosion at any moment. I can still hear that noise of the steam escaping from the jiggler on top of the canner.

The fear we had came from stories of explosions of stovetop canners that had not been used properly. My grandmother had such an accident that damaged the ceiling after an explosion. Not good memories and something that I certainly want to avoid.

Pressure Canning Still Viable For Longterm Food Storage

The use of pressure canning is a key portion of preserving food for long-term food storage. This gives you the ability to preserve lots of different types of foods that can last 5 years or more. These foods are ready to eat and fit in with our overall plans for meals in a jar and heat and eat meals.

Expanding beyond jelly we are now canning fresh vegetables of all types, fruits and even meats. All these combine to create a complete set of meals ready to eat for the entire family.

But there is still the lingering memories of the perceived dangers of traditional pressure canning.

Modern Canning Technology Eases Concerns

There had to be a better way. Technology had made great strides in other areas, why not in the area of pressure canning?

Through research we found that technology has been able to make the process of canning more automated. Done correctly, the process is fairly automated and much safer than in year's past.

We use a Power Cooker XL as our pressure canner. This unit can also do slow cooking and pressure cooking in addition to pressure canning, We use this appliance so much it rarely goes on a shelf in the pantry.

Using sanitary practices you fill the jars with the item you wish to can. Add the lids and rings and then place them in the pressure canner. Add the correct amount of water to allow for the creation of steam. Place the lid on the canner and press the button to start the canning process. Make sure that you have selected the right amount of time for the product you are canning. At this point, you are ready to go do something else while your foods can.

There is no noise. No worries about too much pressure buildup. You don't have to worry about letting your foods cook too long. The pressure is regulated, there is no jiggler to make noise and the timer will turn off the canning process is complete. It could not get much easier and worry free.

Give Modern Pressure Canning a Chance

Ease your fears and concerns by using technology. Pressure canning is much easier and safer when you properly use modern technology to your advantage. Use set-and-forget procedures that let's you pressure can while you do other things around the house.

Over time, you will create a supply of pressure canned fruits, vegetables, meats and even stews, soups and other meals in a jar. You will quickly build up your long-term food storage as well as your supplies for everyday heat and eat meals.

Jerry D. Wilson has a lifetime of wilderness and outdoors experience to pull from to give quality advice for emergency preparedness.

Mr. Wilson has created a blog and Facebook page to help educate everyone on emergency preparedness and disaster planning. Topics such as home food storage, meals-in-a-jar, water storage and financial planning to name a few.

Alien Technology and Government Cover Ups

Major Jesse Marcel had brought some of the scavenged parts home with him after the Roswell crash. He described the debris to appear as Aluminum Foil, but he noticed when you were to bend the material it would bounce back to its original form. As soon as his Commanding officer heard that he secretly took some debris home with him, the commanding officer made him hold pieces of a weather balloon to convince the public it was nothing more than a failed weather balloon. This was the start of the UFO cover up.

Have you noticed an advance of technology during the 1950's well Conspiracy theorists think that we achieved this level of technology by the United States Government using and modifying extraterrestrial technology. Conspiracy Theorists say that night vision goggles were most likely built from the eye of an extraterrestrial pilot. All of this technology has been achieved a few years after the Roswell incident occurred.

Several men like Boyd Bushman have come forward during their last months before dying revealing all sorts of Government secrets. Bushman claimed he experienced and worked with extraterrestrial technology. Bushman also claimed that he visited the mysterious Military Base known as Area 51 which was not acknowledged as an actual place until 2013 when the CIA revealed its existence. While working at Area 51 he claimed to have met several extraterrestrial beings. He also supplied the interviewers with photos of alien beings. One being called J-rod, which was the nickname the workers at area 51 gave this alien since they did not speak the same language. They also had to develop a different type of way for them to communicate.

The wow signal was another sign of alien life detected on August 15th 1977 by Jerry Ehman while working on an SETI project at the Big Ear Radio telescope of the Ohio State University. The signal also was claimed to had lasted 72 seconds. Which is the longest recorded signal recorded. While Jerry was reviewing the data he was so impressed he wrote Wow! On the side of the paper. Which gave the Wow signal its name.

The Canadian Politician known as Paul Hellyer revealed that the U.S has been working with aliens, and also revealed that aliens had been visiting earth for thousands of years. Why Do Kids Always Ask Why, Even In The Classroom?

Have you ever noted how some kids have so many questions and so much curiosity? Perhaps you were like this at first, and eventually realized that adults and authority figures like teachers got annoyed if you asked too many questions. It turns out the questions we ask are often way more important than the answers and those of us who continue to ask questions develop a far better understanding of the world.

Not long ago, I discussed this topic with a retired school teacher from the UK, specifically why some kids keep asking "Why?" and even as you answer, they ask "why" to your answer and so on. The school teacher noted:

"Yes, I have taught Why kids. Some were genuinely interested, others thought it was cool and it made them look intelligent. It didn't, and it held up the lecture. All teachers are very restricted in what they can teach in the curriculum. Everyone has to toe the party lines. The interested kids took enough to satisfy themselves, and ran with it."

This of course makes it tough for teachers and if students ask "why" too much, this teacher would eventually say; "Sorry luv, I can't help you. If you have more questions, you'll have to go to the library and look it up yourself."

Turns out the truly curious and interested kids did, today of course, it's much easier, "Google It on your smartphone," and get your answer in 0.00291183717 seconds and chose from one of the 10,000 results to your inquiry.

Yes, that is very interesting, I agree with her solution in a classroom-teaching environment, and yes, I've noted the "Why" kids that just do it to be funny or disruptive. It's easy to tell the difference between those and the ones who are generally interested, because the interested kids say "oh" and then modify their next question to something extremely pertinent - although in a classroom would also be disruptive even if it piques the curiosity of other students who enjoy diving into the subject matter. When kids are truly interested and like the topic, enjoy learning they learn extremely fast and do very well in their understanding of the new material. I also agree that if a student is not interested in self-directed study to satisfy their curiosity - then an instructor can't help much.

I guess the instructor needs to help them develop the interest, by allowing the subject matter to be interesting, and it's mostly all interesting. We have a problem in our schools in the US, 1/2 the teachers don't care, the other 1/2 care very much. one year with a non-caring teacher of a child can be a disaster for their mental development. I wish more teachers would hear the call of Sir Ken Robinson on teaching. Of course, our problem in the US is the top driven challenges in our schools, teachers told how to teach, what to teach, when to teach, when to test, etc. - and so it's hard to develop the individual minds. To your point about... "look it up" if you want to know more.

Today, our kids can look up anything they want any time they want, the Oxford Library on steroids - Internet - Google. It's just laziness not to, it's all there, but alas, often the students desires are not. I'd blame the system, not the teachers, well not all the teachers, some, I mean burn-out is very common in a top driven school system - those teachers teach because they want to, until they find they can't, then it's just a paycheck and pension, they are trapped - like many of their students I suppose?

What Kind of Language Should Be Used For The Teaching of Elementary School Pupils?

Elementary or basic school education is seen by many educationists as the most influential and important level of education. It dictates the success or failure of every child who climbs the academic ladder higher. Since it is the foundation for the child, the teaching and learning processes at this level of education must not be compromised. It must rather be honed so well so that the pupils can be well equipped with the strong fundamental knowledge to pursue other higher forms of education later in their lives. The use of foreign language as the medium of instruction has been criticised as being a barrier for successful promulgation of the teaching and learning processes as well as minimising the expected learning outcomes for these fragile learners. Thus, many theorists and researchers in education have recently been raising the awareness of the great potentials of relaying the teaching and learning processes in education via the use of the local language.

Children in the elementary schools are in the formative years of their lives. The first point of instruction given them through informal institutions like the home and religious associations is imparted using local languages. Thus, the child is more accustomed and familiar with this language medium for instruction. This familiarisation is essential because it deepens the child's receptiveness to any form of instruction that is given him or her. Right from the womb and in the early stages of their lives, these feeble pupils have heard and used this form of language. As a result, they are better prepared to understand abstract concepts in any field of study in comparison to any new, alien and/or unfamiliar language.

Granted, some languages like English and French are international languages and have been adopted as the official languages by some countries. This makes it imperative for pupils to be well versed in them. However, since it is a secondary language, it must be learned by the pupils as part of the subjects to be taught in the elementary schools. However, it will be a great challenge to use it as a primary mode of language in the teaching of all the other subjects in schools at the lower level. Studies conducted by the UNESCO have revealed that the secondary or foreign language barrier really blurs the understanding of pupils and is the major cause of poor expected learning outcomes among elementary school pupils globally.

Identifying this major setback to the education of pupils in elementary schools globally, many countries have already passed legislation for the use of the local language as the language medium of instruction at the lower levels of education. Examples of these countries who have successfully implemented the use of local languages in imparting instruction include China, Guatemala, Burkina Faso, Philippines, Cameroon, Ethiopia, India and many others. These countries have achieved great successes and have recorded a massive improvement as well as increases the expected learning outcomes of pupils in their elementary educational institutions. Thus, it will be a wise course that is not misplaced in any way, for other countries to mimic their excellent examples. This would help these fragile learners in developing a strong yearning for the teaching and learning activities in education. More importantly, it will aid in achieving the expected learning outcomes while setting a perfect foundation for the higher level education of these fragile elementary school pupils whom the future belongs.

Establish a "No Zone" For Your Protection

Where is Your "No Zone"?

A "No Zone" is a defensive strategy within your home that places an imaginary boundary that cannot be crossed by an intruder without deadly force being applied. Just that simple. Think of it as a boundary or choke point where crossing into the area triggers deadly action.

Someone may break into your home and you may be in a different part of the house and not in immediate danger. You may wish to retreat to a safer portion of the house and not confront the intruder. Your choice. In that case you must establish a "No Zone" where you will act if the intruder crosses into this area. For us, our bedrooms are upstairs. So we established our "No Zone" as the staircase leading up to the 2nd floor. If the intruder steps into this zone they will be met with deadly force.

Part of your defensive plan for your home must include a "No Zone". This should be a part of the home where there is nothing for the intruder to hide behind or escape. It is truly a killing zone, a gauntlet where deadly force is applied with total effectiveness. You do not want the intruder to have a means of escape or defense.

This is No Game

An intruder in your home is no game of hide and seek. Go to you defensible position within your home and wait for the intruder to come to you. The walls in your home provide concealment, not protection. Do not engage the intruder in a run-and-gun scenario.

Deadly force is serious and must be taken only in extreme conditions. Instead of stalking an intruder in the dark wouldn't it be smarter to have the intruder come to you, into an area where there is no defense or escape, where you have the advantage? That is why you establish a "No Zone.'

It is always better for you to allow the intruder to come to you rather than going from room to room, even in your own home. You be the one setting the trap and let the intruder walk into your trap.

Your Boundary May be a Distance

Your zone may be a distance from you. When the danger comes at you it may not be easy to retreat to your safe room. You may have to engage the danger where you are. Establish your "No zone" as a distance from your position.

This allows you to move about and still keep yourself at a safe distance from danger. Always remain vigilant and aware of your surroundings.

When the line is crossed do not hesitate. Take action. Your life and the lives of your family depend upon it.

SkyTrain Transit in Vancouver

Downtown Vancouver and the surrounding Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) has a good public transit system. Like the city itself, the transportation system, is not directly comparable to some of the world's major cities like New York, Paris, London or Tokyo; however, for a mid-sized city, it is not too bad for getting around without a personal vehicle. There are of course areas n the city that are more remote or difficult to access conveniently on the transit system, but generally, the SkyTrain and bus network will get you where you need to go.

The SkyTrain  is Vancouver's equivalent of New York's Subway, Paris' Metro or London's Tube... Again the scale or intricacy is not there but the rapid line transit concept is the same. Vancouver's Skytrain started service in 1986 while the city hosted the Expo World's Fair. It is the oldest and longest fully-automated driverless transit systems in the world. It currently serves about 250,000 passengers per weekday and has an on-time service delivery performance of nearly 96%.

Don't let the fact that literally nobody is behind the wheel bother you as the safety record over its service time has been impeccable. Just think that there is no room for human error and the computers that control the system never need a morning coffee to stay awake. The exceptional on-time delivery should indicate the level of precision that the SkyTrain operates with.

There are 3 main lines to the SkyTrain in Vancouver: the Expo, Millennium and Canada Lines. The Expo and Millennium lines connect downtown Vancouver to the surrounding GVRD cities of Burnaby, New Westminster and Surrey while the newest Canada line connects downtown to the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and the city of Richmond.

Generally the SkyTrain tracks are on elevated guide ways that stand high above the city streets; however, there are a few stations and portions of lines that run underground. The tracks in the sky gave way to the aptly named SkyTrain when the first trips were made on the original Expo line. The elevated vantage point gives us an efficient and comfortable vantage points of many parts of the city spread over a wide geographical space.

As a tourist its worth the day fare to ride the system and hope off when you get to an area you would like to visit. Unfortunately you cannot easily access the North Shore, the University of British Columbia, Steveston, or some of the other beautiful areas of the GVRD easily from the SkyTrain. To access the rest of the grid beyond the SkyTrain you'll need to catch a bus or the always fun Seabus in the case of the North Shore.

The SkyTrain in Vancouver is very good but most convenient and time efficient way to get around the city and surrounding areas is by car. If you are visiting from out of town definitely consider getting into a rental vehicle. The Skytrain does have its limitations of the areas it services and hours of operation that can often times leave you a bit stranded. Getting yourself into a rental vehicle will give you all the freedom and flexibility to view the many beautiful spots in Vancouver and also get you out of the city limits into the spectacular surrounding areas. Pacific Car Rentals is an affordable, independent, family owned Vancouver car rental company. We strive to deliver quality services and provide a large selection of vehicles. We have been actively involved in the car rental business for over ten years and enjoy delivering quality services to our clients.
