LEGO: The End of Life Is the Start of Profits

By Tim Mahoney

As a casual LEGO collector I always keep an eye out for sets that are worth investing in. Obviously the intention and goal of LEGO investing is ultimately to make a profit. Therefore it is crucial for the casual investor to maximize their investment dollar which is usually achieved only after a set is retired, or in LEGO parlance, reached its end of life (EOL). It is no secret that the single biggest factor in LEGO investing and set appreciation is EOL. In simplest terms, no EOL no profit.

For the LEGO investor nothing is more eagerly anticipated and perhaps simultaneously dreaded than the three letters: EOL. For many casual LEGO investors EOL comes far too fast and for others far too late. Many times EOL comes quite unexpectedly. One day a set is seemingly there and the next it is "Out of Stock" or "Call for Availability". Neither is good if you are the LEGO investor on the outside looking in. There are many EOL theories and prognosticators to be found online with varying claims of purported LEGO sources and inside information. Amidst all the speculation one thing is sure: unless you work for The LEGO Group (TLG) and have actual product life cycle knowledge, it is all just pure speculation and educated guesses. Regardless of this fact, it is nevertheless fun and potentially profitable to engage in this activity. Virtually every LEGO investor does it. Historically TLG uses a maddeningly and infinitely flexible two year EOL rule where many sets see their production run end. I like to sum up the phenomenon with three main EOL categories or scenarios which I call: exception, perception, and deception.

Missing out on a great LEGO set is a gut wrenching feeling that happens all too often for the casual LEGO investor. The two year rule is nothing more than a vague LEGO barometer for when a set might go EOL. As with almost every rule there are exceptions-in this case many exceptions! Attempting to identify a bright line EOL rule is a true fool's errand. The following examples are but a few exceptions to the LEGO two year EOL rule. The first and perhaps most extreme EOL exception would be the Holiday Train set (10173). It was available for only one meager holiday season in 2006 and then poof. The original RRP in 2006 was $89 and today it is valued at upwards of $300. Granted this was special occasion set, but still that short a lifespan is a tough pill to swallow if you had any hope of acquiring it. Another notable exception set that many casual investors may have missed out on is the Trade Federation MTT (7662) which was released in late 2007 for $99 and went EOL in late 2008 with just a little over one year in production. The value of this set today is nearly $400, which is whopping 285% increase. One other lofty example of an EOL set exception to the two year rule is the VW Beetle (10187) released in 2008 and reached EOL status in December of 2009 for a total lifespan of less than 20 months. The original RRP was $119 and the current value today is listed at about $350, a nearly 200% increase. Unfortunately there are many more sets that fit into the exception category, like Market Street (10190) and Grand Carousel (10188) to name just two. Both of which make me feel like kicking myself for missing! These exceptions to the EOL rule highlight the perils and pitfalls of LEGO investing and any investors that snatched up these exceptions to the two year EOL rule were very fortunate indeed.

So we looked at a few exceptions to the two year EOL guideline, now onto the bulk of the rule. It stands to reason that a rule should have a large number of examples that support it. In other words for exceptions to exist there must be a collective perception of what is supposed to happen. There are numerous examples of the two year EOL rule that, if observed, still allowed casual investors to make a tidy profit. A favorite set of mine that falls into this category is The Eiffel Tower (10181). Released in late 2007 and going EOL in late 2009, this set is a great example of an almost exact two year production run. The original RRP for The Eiffel Tower was $199. The current value now stands at an impressively tall $850 which translates to a not too shabby 326% increase. Another fine example of a great investment set with a routine two year production life is Jabba's Sail Barge (6210). This awesome set was released in 2006 with a modest RRP of $75. Today this set typically commands a price exceeding $400 which equates to a 445% increase on investment. Perhaps the holy grail of the LEGO modular world and the best example of the two year production life cylce was set 10182 Caf Corner. Caf Corner lasted a full two years from 2007 to 2009. The mind boggling original bargain RRP of $139 has now ballooned to a staggering $1,136, for a 700%+ increase in value! Other notable sets that fall squarely within the two year EOL sweet spot are the Taj Mahal (10189); the Green Grocer (10185); The Millennium Falcon (10179); Vader's TIE Advanced (10175) and loads more. It is hard to claim any surprise or generate much sympathy for missing out on any set that stuck around for at least two years. Two years represents the common perception of the average LEGO production lifespan and is often the determining factor when facing an investment purchase of different sets: go for the set that is the furthest along in its production run and you are usually safe. That is unless you are the victim of LEGO deception.

LEGO deception is nothing more than those sets that have outlived their welcome for the casual investor yet simply refuse to die a natural death. That is not to say that the general public agrees with that sentiment; in fact they obviously do not or else these sets would not still be hanging around years after their debuts. A perfect example of EOL deception is the Medieval Market Village (10193). This set came out in 2008 and is still available today. Currently LEGO Shop at Home (S&H) lists this set as not being available until August of this year. Does this mean it is finally nearing EOL? The two year EOL rule would dictate this result but this set seems to have some strong legs and remains very popular. It may still have some life left in it. The original RRP of $99 is still an outstanding deal. The current value is listed at about $92 which is a 6% decrease from RRP. Interestingly the value of this set has actually increased 6% over the last month. It seems like investors might start to realize some modest gains in the next 6 months if it does end up going EOL this summer or fall. Another set that is still available long past the two year EOL rule is the Fire Brigade (10197). This set was released in September 2009 and was thought to be a likely candidate for EOL at Christmas 2011! As of today it is still going strong with no signs of letting up, even after the release of the modular Town Hall in March. There has been much speculation surrounding the modular theme and how many different active sets it can support at any given time. For several weeks this spring most major outlets did not have the Fire Brigade in stock, including S@H and Amazon. This led to a small bubble in value that has since popped and has now returned to near original RRP. Finally, one cannot ignore the biggest and most extreme example of LEGO EOL deception: The Death Star (10188). For many casual LEGO investors it was this set that brought them out of their Dark Ages. So it is somewhat ironic that this set is still available four years later! In fact it is still a LEGO best seller on Amazon, even with a massive RRP of $399. Unfortunately the current value is "just" $383 and certainly does not mirror the impressive fire power of the real and fully operational Death Star it so wonderfully emulates.

Many factors play a role in applying the LEGO two year EOL guideline. Certainly popularity, profit, theme and price all help to dictate the lifespan of a specific set and each one of those factors could be analyzed in great detail. For most casual LEGO investors that is just not particularly practical or productive. For now it is best to keep an eye out for sets that are nearing the two year mark and use your best LEGO judgment. As with any investment there is a large element of chance involved. Jump too early and you may sit around with many large boxes in every room of your home. Wait too long and you will only wish you had many large boxes in every room of your home.

Songs That Pay Tribute To the Glam Rock Band T Rex

By Doug Poe

Technology for the most part has left me behind, as I continue to prefer reading physical newspapers and books as well as using a phone primarily to call someone. I also enjoy listening to bands on vinyl, although I do appreciate the convenience of digital music.

Another facet of technology that I have found convenient is the DVR, which I have found to be easier to use than all of its analog predecessors. I thought I had mastered that recording device until a few weeks ago, when I accidentally taped a program I had no desire to ever watch.

Deciding to give it a preview for a few seconds before deleting it, I was immediately impressed with the show's musical intro. It turned out that Lip Sync Battle has chosen as its theme song "20th Century Boy", one of many of my favorite tunes by Marc Nolan's old glam rock band T. Rex.

Most people know T. Rex for their one hit "Bang a Gong" or because that group is mentioned in several popular songs by other bands. Here are seven such tunes, which pay tribute to T. Rex, including one by the band itself.

The Wake Up Bomb by REM

Michael Stipe admits to practicing his T. Rex moves and making the scene while getting drunk and singing along with Queen on this track from the album New Adventures In Hi-Fi.

All the Young Dudes by Mott the Hoople

David Bowie wrote this classic, on which Ian Hunter says he does not need TV because he has T. Rex.

You Better You Bet by the Who

The opening single from Face Dances has Roger Daltrey singing Pete Townshend's line about drinking himself blind while listening to Marc Nolan and his band.

Kool in the Kaftan by BA Robertson

A frequent songwriting partner of Mike Rutherford of Genesis, the Scottish artist mentioned the glam band in this track from a solo album.

Mambo Sun by the Bongos

On a rare live recording of their cover of Nolan's funky number, singer and guitarist Richard Barone introduces them as one of his favorite bands.

Prime Mover by Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction

Unlike what Bowie had written a few decades before, these guys admit to loving both TV and T. Rex on this title track.

The Groover by T. Rex

Bolan cleverly says "T are E. X." when opening this song from a compilation called Bump n Grind.

Do You Remember Rock and Roll Radio by the Ramones

The punk legends include Nolan and his group on this hit from The Chinese Wall Album.

All About Auto Glass Repair

By Shalini Madhav

Poor driving, bad weather conditions or even some man-made reasons can become the cause of the damage to your vehicle's windshield or even the other glass windows or the back glass. However, the first question that arises in our mind as soon as we see a crack or damage to the glass is its repair or replacement cost. However, the cost might vary as per the quality of repair or replacement along with the availability. Before that, let us know in brief about the auto glass repair services. Along with that, also let us know the conditions where you must opt for a repair and where you should prefer to go for a replacement instead.

Repair or Replace?

Gone are the days when even a small crack in the windscreen would demand a whole replacement of the windscreen along with leaving a hole in your pockets. However, with the advancement in the modern technologies, not only has it become possible to repair the windscreens with perfection, but the process is cost-effective too.

However, if your windscreen faces a major damage, which can be a considered as a length of more than 3 inches, most of the service providers might advise a replacement. Moreover, along with the extent of damage, the factor that might affect the repair of the glass might also be the location of damage. Damage at particular places might not be able to be repaired or might have chances of spreading rapidly. For the exact repair information, consulting a professional might be the best option.

The Repair Process:

Unlike the replacement process, which includes the removal of the entire glass and installation of a new one in its place, the repair process includes the curing polishing of the damaged portion. If the crack is small, the repairs are mostly successful along with providing efficient strength and clarity, making the glass as good as new.

The cost of Repair?

In terms of cost-effectiveness, a repair is much cheaper than a full repair, and for small damages, for the same reason, a repair is advisable. However, if the damage is big or there is a chance of re-occurrence of the crack or damage, going for repair would cost you double fold as you would be required to replace the glass anyhow.

However, if you have decided to go for a repair for your damaged windshield or glass, do not wait till the damage actually starts to become an issue. If the minor damage is not treated immediately, it is most probable that the condition will worsen and even might make the repair not possible and you would be forced into going for a replacement and paying much more, even if when you could have had it done for much less money. Moreover, there are several service providers that might provide a mobile service and come up to your home space or office to repair your damaged windscreen, without you, having to take out time from your busy schedule.

Stormy Daniels and the Fight for Truth in America

By Conroy Reynolds PhD

Did Stormy Daniels tell the truth in her interview with Anderson Cooper on CBS's 60 Minutes? This is the question that has occupied the thoughts of the millions of persons (including yours truly) who watched the show that night. As I began writing this my eye caught a New Times story about a special election in Arizona that is dominated by whether or not voters believe Stormy Daniels. Many Democrats believe her, conservatives doubt her. It seems we are all having to ask that question about so many of the social and political discussions of the day. Consider the fact the editors of the Oxford Dictionary chose the term, "post-truth" as their 2016 word of the year. One is then forced to ask the question, is the postmodern era the era of post-truth?

The most commonly used phrase in recent times in national conversations is the term, Fake News. The rise of social media, the ever-increasing sophistication of technology and the vast amounts of money people are prepared to spend in order to get access to voters has created the perfect storm for the emergence of the post-truth era. However, the thing that is bothering me most is the almost deafening silence and even complicity in some cases, by people of faith on the importance of truth. A far cry from the declaration of Jesus, "when you know truth, it will set you free." Where are the Religious and spiritual voices standing up for truth? Preachers should be trumpeting its importance and calling their flocks to a recommitment to truth above everything else. We cannot be true to our faith when we passively accept lies and deception from leaders in whatever arena in hopes that we will achieve some greater good in the process. That is too high a price. Freedom cannot thrive when truth is dying.

Soren Kierkegaard, the great Danish Philosopher wrote, "There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn't true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true." In either case, the commitment to truth is of first priority. In the face of this onslaught of deception, this attempt to normalize deception as an effective weapon of persuasion in the quest for money and power, I suggest three responses by people of faith.

Renew our collective and unswerving commitment to truth above all else. Declare a non-negotiable decision to live out the meaning of what it is to know the one who declared, "I am the Truth." Let it be an unequivocal declaration from preachers, teachers, writers, and scholars.

Hold those accountable who are found be deliberately deceptive in what they declare to be truth. It must be clear that there is a price to pay for such behavior. Those who promise transparency must deliver or else.

Reject those who are willing to compromise truth as false leaders, "wolves in sheep's clothing" to use an old clich. Those who use deception and lies to get my support are attempting to rob me of my freedom, those who support them are just as bad.

In the world of truth, there is no difference between a king and a robber; there the only questions asked are whether what he said is truth and whether it was truth in him. Soren Kierkegaard

Both my experiences as a Counselor and mental health Chaplain have convinced me that personal transformation is a vital key to living the quality of life we all seek. I also believe this experience is available to each of us so I have dedicated a great deal of time and effort into understanding the process of self-transformation and explaining it to others in a straightforward manner. I am very gratified by the many positive comments I regularly receive from people who have had life transformation experiences after reading some of what I have written on the subject. My book, "Finding God in the Dark: How to get through when you can't get over" contains the fullest expression of my thoughts. See for yourself http://www.conroyreynolds.net

Solar Panel Uses & Impact on the Domestic Segment

By Naseem Bano

Solar panels have created a huge change in energy productions. Now solar energy production does not need any introduction. And almost everyone knows about it. India is also moving forward to solar energy production. Solar companies in India are focusing more on industrial as well as domestic segment too. There are so many solar products available in the market specially design for domestic use like solar heater, power inverters, battery chargers, lamps etc.

Many global companies see have said that the demand for solar panels is increasing day by day and different government including India is trying to make it more easily available. It is very interesting that even ordinary citizens have been increasingly interested in this. We all know that the fossil fuels will be end in next two or three decades that is why we need to be more focus on solar power production systems

Many countries are planting huge size solar panels for generating high voltage electricity one of them are Tengger Desert Solar Park Kurnool Ultra Mega Solar Park are great examples of it.

Important factors-
The Price of the grids- the Indian market price of solar panel installation of on crystalline starts from 42/wp (in) to 50/wp (in Rs). it is all depends on the efficiency range of the solar panel same as applies to polycrystalline panels. Those who does not the difference then let us tell you, that Monocrystalline is made of single silicon crystal whereas Multi-crystalline PV is made up of multiple crystals. A monocrystalline is more efficient in converting solar energy into electricity per sq meter area than a multi-crystalline PV. Thus the space required for the same amount of wattage is less in monocrystalline PV panel. Thus it is costlier than a Multi-crystalline PV. The modules available in India are mostly "Polycrystalline". Govt. of India is also trying to reduce the price of thermal panels so that it would be more affordable to a common man.

reduce electricity bills - grid-connected system, off-grid system- If you are living in an area where power cuts are less frequent and you want to implement solar PV system to reduce your electricity bill then the best solution would be to go for a grid-connected solar PV system It will cost you anywhere between 50,000-70,000 per kWp (cost varies based on the type of inverter and panels you choose).

If you are living in an area where there are frequent power cuts, then the best solution for you would be to go for an Off Grid Solar PV system will include batteries, which are an expensive part of the system and these would need replacement every few years (4-7 years). A typical Off Grid Solar PV System would cost about Rs 1 lakh.

Environmental friendly - While many people are switching to sustainable energy resources the solar thermal energy is leading the globe to pollution-free energy production.Such benefits like low-cost installation and reducement of the electricity bills one can also not ignore the benefits which got from solar power consumption.

The oil refineries plants, the refining process is a chemical process through which many impurities like carbon dioxide and methane mix with the air and pollutes it. We can say that our traditional energy sources are leading contributors to the global warming and decreased air quality but granting electricity through solar thermal plants produces no pollution to air and gives a pollution-free electricity.

Do not require high maintenance- solar panels do not need high maintenance the important thing is that u have to be careful when you install the system in your area whether on your roof or in your garden. Take professional's help to install the panel system. But we all know that u have to clean the panels, it is an important part of maintenance. You can rinse the dust with standard garden hose or soft sponge will work too. If the panels are installed on the high roof, it may be best to ask for a professional cleaner.

Unlimited energy resource - as we all know that the sun is the main source of energy, and yes it is free and always available we just don't need to worry about the source, but the main concern of our scientists is to use more and more of it. The energy we produce from the sunlight is just 1% of what we get every second.

When sunlight hits the photovoltaic cells, it knocks electrons loose from their atoms. When the electrons start flowing from cells they generate electricity. The inverts stores

As we all know that the solar industry is growing very fast we still need more output from these devices we use. The path ahead for the solar industry is certainly complex. But the industry is progressing everybody is trying to get best results from it.

We believe that there are tremendous opportunities in this field and we all know that it's the right time to focus on solar power production. http://solaretribe.com/solar-companies-suppliers-india

New Insight Into How Immune Cells Are Formed

By Richa Verma

After several attempts by various scientists and researchers, it is finally revealed that they have made a ground-breaking invention - The skin patch. It has the ability, not only to heal but also regrow damaged organs within a short span of time. The technology used to develop this is called (TNT) Tissue Nanotransfection. The technique is reprogramming of skin cells. Inducing pluripotent stem cells are the most common instances of reprogramming where the stem cells such as the blood or skin is converted to an embryonic stem cell by introducing it to some reprogramming genes to it. The method requires the path to be placed on the wound or target area and then removed. During this process, the chip injects a genetic code into the cells of the skin which helps restore the wounded/damaged blood vessels. The research team at Ohio State University were successful in restoring cognitive functions on lab mice with serious damage in its limbs.

The chip injects bits of DNA into the skin pores with just a shot of electricity. It is then, that the DNA drops its identity and reprograms itself to the certain cell type which can be further harvested to fix injured and severed organs. This technological advancement is likely to help in the reconstruction of damaged internal organs, restoration of old and aged tissues and in bringing relief in brain regeneration.

The Ohio team has built this device with silicone of the size of a stamp and it serves the purpose of a reservoir as well as an injector. It's as small as a penny. It is micro-etched with several nano channels that help in connecting with the microscopic dents.

Another path-changing aspect about this invention is that it does not involve expensive cell isolating methods nor does it warrant tedious manipulation in the laboratory. This technology would use the patient's skin itself for the conversion to take place and thus making the human skin a prolific bioreactor.

Researchers believe that if this technology is further bettered, it can help in a massive way in relieving and restoring cognitive functions and also help patients with Alzheimer, Parkinson disease as well as relieve brain tumors.

The team is now waiting for approval of human trials, as it uses the person's own skin cells and doesn't require external medication. This extensive research was led by Dr. Chandan Sen, Director of Centre of regenerative medicine and Cell-based Therapies and was funded by Leslie and Abigail Wexner, Ohio State's Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Cell-Based Therapies and Ohio State's Nanoscale Science and Engineering Centre.

This invention can not only instil hope and faith in a lot of people but also help them recover and heal completely without having to go through an invasive surgery, but instead use their own living cells to heal themselves. According to Dr. Chandan, it will take a little longer to get the approval of FDA to start their human trials, following to the success of which, is the possibility of this technology being available for the masses.

The Reasons Why the Royalty Free Music Is Gaining Momentum

By Aman Tumukur Khanna

Music is the essence of the life and for the majority of the people, it is an enjoyable affair. There is so much variety in the music that sometimes one can get confused. The Music is more like a company to the ears and to oneself. People these days want to carry it wherever they go, be it a smartphone, iPod, iPad, laptop etc. It is not possible to keep downloading the music every now and then there are issues of the music being copyrighted or protected, not downloadable etc. One more type of music is the "royalty free music" which is a sort of music license which allows the buyer to pay once and enjoy the music until whatever time he wants.

Royalty free music streamlines the music license by eliminating the negotiation factor with the Performance rights organisation also knows as the PRO and also provides you with the access to use the copyrighted music by a one- time payment. It is a sort of license where a royalty is paid and is one of the major reasons for the companies to resort to this means.

Even though the meaning looks simple, yet many baffling ideas are in circulation regarding this concept as there is a word "free "associated with it. People often get confused due to this and it would be better if we take a brief look at what all "royalty free music "does not cover ".

• It can be compared to a duty -free product which does not come free of cost. So we pay the price for the product but no duties or taxes. Similarly, there is a royalty we pay for the music after which it is free.

• This music definitely has a copyright owner and protection, but since a royalty is paid for the license, it becomes free even though rights are with the other person.

• It is not limited to any specific genre of music and is not of an inferior quality.

• It is not always a very high royalty license charge that one has to pay. It could vary as per choices.

After a brief insight, let us also consider its importance and the benefits for a person to resort for royalty free music than free music if available, and some of the reasons are mentioned as under:

• The person who buys this music wishes to edit and bring it to some commercial use.

• They are looking for high- quality music without any omissions.

• The company or people who buy the music are trying to protect themselves against any problems and even get a legal support.

• It can be easily downloaded as there are many sites who offer this option at a very good speed.

So, we can say that royalty music is more like an achievement of a free and superb promotional method and is an ideal option for those who wish to work with hypermedia projects.

Those French Quarter Specialties, Like Nowhere Else

By Dale Phillip

New Orleans foodies are very particular about the their favorite native foods, so don't confuse Cajun (which is "low country") with Creole, and well, we wouldn't dare mess with French cooking (say no more). Especially in the French Quarter these fine native dishes abound, so let's look at the most popular:

Jambalaya: a traditional French and Spanish combination of andouille sausage, shrimp, chicken and sometimes pork, with an emphasis on meats rather than shellfish, all in a spicy and flavorful stew which includes rice and vegetables, the Creole style is native to the famed French Quarter; Cajun version does not include tomatoes; it's your basic Spanish paella with a French Creole or Cajun twist;

Gumbo: Louisiana's official state food, similar to jambalaya but includes fil powder (a spice from the sassafras tree) and okra, which are not common in jambalaya. Gumbo is also served separately over white rice; gumbos, touffes, and creoles dishes are considered more complex in preparation (remember, you're dealing with very specific versions here), and whether or not you are eating at a New Orleans restaurant or in other parts of the state; renowned chef Paul Prudhomme put gumbo on the map;

Crawfish Etouffee: another variation on gumbo and jambalaya which always includes crawfish or shrimp, and maybe crab, but does not have sausage or other meats; from the French word "smothered" and served over rice; considered a bit lighter than its two cousins;

(If you are planning on preparing any of the above dishes yourself, it would be wise to simply pick up a bottle of Paul Prudhomme's or Emeril Lagassi's blended spices to really do them justice.)

Po' Boy and Muffaletta: New Orleans sandwiches, with very specific ingredients and breads (not to be found at any sub shop);

Red Beans 'n Rice: just what it sounds like, a spicy rice dish with red kidney beans;

Oysters abound and are plentiful in New Orleans, fresh from the salty waters of the Gulf of Mexico, served raw with red sauce, Rockefeller-style or in an oyster loaf, lightly breaded and fried, between two slices of "pullman loaf bread" and slathered with mayo, topped with tomato slices, (not on any low-fat diet, to be sure, but delicious); shake on a few drops of hot sauce, open a cold brew and you're eatin';

Shrimp Remoulade: a Creole favorite, from famed restaurants Galatoire's and Brennan's, Gulf shrimp in a spicy tomato-based sauce, served with hard-boiled egg, sliced cucumbers and maybe a few olives, it's a winner and don't skimp on the Tabasco;

Andouille sausage: smoked pork sausage, originally brought to Louisiana by French immigrants that has been eagerly incorporated into much of Creole cooking; if you can't find it, other sausage can be substituted but it just won't be the same, and for heaven sake don't use hot dogs;

Beignets and a strong cup of caf au lait: high on any tourist's list, these light fried doughnuts accompanied by strong coffee is why Cafe du Monde in the French Quarter is always crowded;

Creole Bread Pudding: similar to mom's, but don't serve it without bourbon sauce;

Bananas Foster: created and still top drawer at famed Brennan's restaurant since 1951, this flaming dessert features a rich butter and brown sugar sauce, over vanilla ice cream;

Creme Brulee: legendary Commander's Palace in the French Quarter rocks with their basic dessert, a version of flan or Italian creme caramel, but with a burnt sugar topping, adopted from Parisian chefs and first popularized in New York City at well-known restaurant Le Cirque (don't tell that to any self-respecting New Orleans fan);

And of course, no article on New Orleans cuisine would be complete without two of their most popular (and potent) cocktails:

Hurricanes, made with two kinds of rum and fruit juice, don't leave home without aspirin or a designated driver; and

Ramos Gin Fizz, a delightful combination of gin, lemon and lime juice, cream, egg white and club soda, don't be fooled by its seemingly innocent frothy taste, it can be deadly if you drink a few; created by Henry Ramos, who operated the Imperial Cabinet Saloon in downtown New Orleans, sadly no longer in existence, but happily the drink is still immensely popular; this is not your basic gin and tonic;

Well, there you have it. The best New Orleans has to offer. No other place does it quite as well, and locals will be the first to tell you that. If you're fortunate enough to make your way to New Orleans, don't miss these incredible dishes. The Big Easy could well be called The Big Waistline. Enjoy.

Author Dale Phillip had the privilege of visiting New Orleans and ate her way through the French Quarter. s a huge fan of seafood, she reveled in the native dishes which were chock full of shrimp, crab and oysters, and the spicy combinations were not to be missed.
She resides in Southern California,where Cajun cooking is not exactly king, but she reminisces about native cuisines and looks forward to returning to The Big Easy someday. She invites you to view her many articles on Food and Drink, and her blog: http://myfriendlyu.blogspot.com/

WHY IT MATTERS: THOUGHTS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT IN CAREER PLANNING

Communities grow its youth in numerous ways. As an award winning educator entering my forty seventh year of educational service; I am delighted with the youth programs I support through the El Pomar Foundation in Colorado Springs.

Over the years of my volunteerism I am aware of the educational engagement support to families and school districts which have a dynamic impact on the present and the future of urban culture. I have watched as youth of all backgrounds arrive at post-secondary informational events hosted on disparate college settings energized to learn about and find pathways for what can come next in their planning. It is a groundbreaking experience for now thousands of students. A preponderance of these students have a new vision quest because of the exposure offered by this careers program. Energy is a distinctive trait for why this program works for youth.

There are a plethora of volunteers who act as guides for the day and do outreach for inclusion. Judges, business leaders, self-defense trainers, military veterans, a delightful assemblage of American range and diversity people the ranks of volunteers and life-informed believers in helping these youngsters from the secondary school realize who there are and who they can be. Future Selfing is so very important. A subtlety is the culture of respect and positive regard for these students. They are very intuitive and appreciate the positive regard that permeates the intent and best hope that underpins the career pathways plan as realized here. The terminology does not communicate the superlative quality of this youth program or all of the merit that it deserves.

On a personal level, I can remember when graduating from high school cum laude, that my high school counselor called me into her office in my final year to inquire if I thought I might want to go to college. The way this portal operates sends the message: Of course you can go to college or to whatever next preparation best suits you. The inclusive culture and durability of this effort sends a message through action that is stereotype defying and powerful for the future of all communities.

Collateral benefits are captured from a young mentor for the students who choose this exposure... reflections resulting when asked to summarize her personal take on this experience.

I have gained a lot of experience working with youth, learned a variety of things while taking some of their workshops with them. I have met a ton of awesome ambassadors. Volunteering with the setup of the events, I've learned some project management skills, organizational skills and definitely leadership skills.

Other organizations offer similar benefit and have done so for decades. All are good villagers. I am happy to visit and review other good works for students.

Importance of Maintaining Viewing Distance While Watching TV

By Khushnud Khan

Whenever we plan to watch a movie in the theatres, most of us will definitely prefer seats somewhere in the middle, rather than sitting right at the front or way back at the end of the theatre. While it is not exactly the same when it comes to watching TV, we will still search for that prime place which will make watching TV a good experience. What we exactly want to feel is the essence of a horror movie or an action movie, without straining our eyes or suffering a headache.

While this fact is not true that sitting too close and watching TV can cause permanent damage to eyes, it can definitely cause strain which leads to blurry vision. Most people try to squeeze the biggest screen in their homes; however if your room is small, then it is not a smart idea. One must maintain a proper viewing distance while watching TV based on the screen size. In general, it is recommended to maintain a distance almost 1.5 to 2.5 times the diagonal screen measurement away, with about a 30-degree viewing angle. For example, if you have a 40" TV, you should be sitting somewhere between 5 and 8.3 feet away from the screen.

So, why is it important to maintain a proper viewing distance while watching a TV?

The basic reason to maintain a proper viewing distance is to avoid eye strain and headache. Excessive eye strain can cause blurry vision which might cause some minor eye-sight problem in the future. Apart from maintaining a proper viewing distance, you must also watch TV in a proper lighted room. Watching TV in wrong lighting gives rise to unnecessary eye strain as the eyes have to work hard to see the image. Thus, the proper viewing distance should be combined with right lighting to avoid eye fatigue and strain.

Thus, how far should you sit while watching the TV?

Consider watching your TV from a distance of five times the width of the TV screen. So watch a 42" HDTV from 15' away. The 15' feet distance was a bit far. However, if you feel that too far, maintain a 10-12' distance on the 42" HDTV. Again, if you are watching a 52" TV, maintain a distance of 6.5' - 10.8' (2.0 m - 3.3 m) from the screen.

Hence, as a piece of advice use your sense and move away from the TV if your eyes start hurting. Make sure to watch TV from a distance that will enable you to read texts comfortably on screen without glaring or straining your eyes.

Clowns Are No Laughing Matter These Days

By Anthony Maguire

Once upon a time, clowns were benevolent figures of laughter and joy.

In the late 1950s and early 1960s, American children followed the animated antics of the Bozo the Clown on television each week. The cartoons were introduced by local presenters made up as the carrot-topped Bozo. One was Willard Scott, later to become weatherman with the NBC Today show. Willard Scott was also the first-ever Ronald McDonald, making his debut appearance in a 1963 TV ad for the burger franchise.

Flash forward ten years, to Cook County, Illinois (interestingly enough, the location of one of the first McDonald's restaurants). A character calling himself Pogo the Clown is a popular attraction at community events. Meanwhile, young men keep going missing...

Underneath the clown makeup and clothes is a psychopath named John Wayne Gacy. In between appearances as Pogo he strangles to death 34 victims. He doesn't wear the clown outfit when he kills, but his alter-ego of Pogo forever shifts the image of the clown in popular consciousness. Almost overnight, clowns become scary, with Gacy paving the way for numerous portrayals of bad clowns in literature and film, most notably Stephen King's It.

King's novel came out in 1986 and was a huge seller. In 1990, his nightmare creation, Pennywise the Clown, was brought to the small screen in a miniseries. Also in 1990, a Florida woman, Marlene Warren opened her front door to a brown-eyed clown bearing flowers and balloons. The clown shot her in the face and drove off in a white Chrysler. The clown's victim died two days later. The killer, a woman, eluded capture for over a quarter century, but now she's serving time for murder.

The nineties and noughties saw chilling portrayals of The Joker, the green-haired prankster in the Batman franchise, by the likes of Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger. Plus we met Krusty, the degenerate clown in The Simpsons.

But it wasn't until 2016 that Caulrophobia - the fear of clowns - reached truly fever pitch. In the latter part of that year, the world was gripped by a wave of 'scary clown' sightings. In the lead-up to Halloween, social media sites received numerous postings about sinister-looking clowns who were reported lurking first in forests, then in a host of urban locations in the US, UK, Australia and a number of other countries. It got so bad that the president of the World Clown Association, Randy Christensen took to YouTube to condemn people dressing up as clowns to frighten people. "Whoever is doing this crazy stuff is not a clown," stated Christensen, a Minnesota-based party clown. "This is someone who is using a good, clean, wholesome art form and distorting it.' Christensen added that members of his association had suffered job cancellations and felt under threat following coverage of scary clown sightings.

It all got too much for McDonald's. On October 11, 2016 the burger giant announced that its mascot would be keeping a lower profile as a result of the incidents. A spokesman said the hamburger clown was cutting back on appearances at community events as a result of the "current climate around clown sightings in communities."

There was a kneejerk reaction from other corporate entities like Target, which took clown masks from its website and stores. Schools as far apart as Ohio, USA, and Otago, New Zealand, banned clown outfits and masks.

Cut forward to Halloween night, Monday October 31, 2016. Caulrophobia had taken such a terrifying hold in the United States that large numbers of both householders and the parents of trick or treaters had firearms at the ready that night.

Fearing vigilante retribution, most clowns kept a low profile that witches' eve. Not so in Orange County, Florida, where two men needed medical treatment after being attacked by a group of 20 people in clown masks. But other than that, Halloween night 2016 seems to have been a bit of a fizzer in the scary clown department, given all the hype leading up to it.

Flashing forward now to May 2017. A bald, bespectacled man fronts a court in Nova Scotia, Canada. He is Dale Raincourt, aka Klutzy the Clown. He pleads guilty to the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl over a six week period. The judge jails him for two years and bans him from ever working as a children's entertainer again. Another nail in the coffin for bona fide clowns trying to earn an honest living.

Then in the fall of 2017 came the big budget cinema production of It. Pennywise was back, scarier than ever! The film proceeded to do very brisk business indeed at the box office, with the biggest attendances ever for a September-October release.

So where does that leave the benevolent, child-friendly clown of yesteryear? Well, a lot of them have hung up their clown outfits and wigs for good. Others have strategically re-aligned themselves in the marketplace, promoting themselves as "balloon artists" and avoiding all use of the "c" word.

And poor old Ronald McDonald has been put out to pasture in most parts of the world. On a recent trip to Thailand, I did encounter his life sized effigy outside a McDonald's in Bangkok. He had his palms pressed together in a "wei" greeting. Alternatively, he might have been praying, appealing for divine intervention as the clown joins the ranks of vampires, zombies and other denizens of our worst nightmares.

Author of this article, Anthony Maguire, has written a novel called True Madness, about a killer clown who terrorises a female TV reporter. Watch out for a blue-haired clown on the book stalls and websites!

A Guide to Scheduling A Newborn Photography Shoot at Your Home

By Jermaine Amado

For a 33 year old that does not have any children, I sure do know a lot about babies! How, you ask? Baby photography! I have been a baby photographer for over 13 years. They are my specialty, my joy, and my life.

When I started newborn photography I had to learn how to hold a baby, soothe a baby, stay calm, and familiarize myself with facial expressions. I would often look at them and think, "I wonder why they are smiling like that". And then you hear a sound... from the diaper... a wet sound. I imagine parents, other photographers, and everyone who works with babies can relate to this.

After a few years of newborn photography, I decided to create a guide to help new parents and photographers alike to help prepare for the photo shoot if the photo shoot takes place at the clients home. All my newborn photo shoots are taken at my clients' homes because it's the most comfortable place for a growing family.

Without further ado, here is the guide born from my frequently asked questions about a newborn photography shoot...

1. When should we schedule the newborn photo shoot? Schedule your newborn photography shoot within the first two weeks of the due date. This is just a tentative date and will likely change depending on the baby's arrival. If you have a C-section then the date is pretty set unless the baby comes early.

It's best to capture babies around 5-14 days while they sleep and have the newborn look. Having said that, there are no guarantees with newborns. They do what they please. I have done photo shoots at 6 days. Some cooperate and some don't. I have done photo shoots at 4 weeks. Some cooperate and some don't. Either way, they're all wonderful!

2. What happens if my baby is late? Contact your photographer and play the date by ear. If the baby is early, don't worry about contacting your photographer right away. Enjoy the new member of your family! Contact them within the next couple of days and let them know that your baby is here.

3. What temperature should the house be? The day of the photo shoot I suggest to have the house at a good warm temperature. We will be sweating but the baby will be comfortable. You might not need the heat on during summer though. The little ones don't like to be too hot or too cold.

Keep in mind that most of the poses will be of the baby in their diaper, naked, or whatever you discussed with your photographer. Walk around your home and think about the settings/backdrops that might work out best in terms of lighting. Usually, photographers like to setup in the room with the most natural light. But also important rooms like the nursery, your bedroom, the living room, and the yard if it's a nice day.

4. When should I feed my baby? Try and time it so that you are almost done with the feeding or completely done by the time the photographer arrives. A happy baby equals a sleepy baby. Sleepy babies are awesome! Also, bear in mind that we might feed the baby a little outside their schedule to keep them calm.

If you wanted your baby in a wrap, diaper cover, or possibly naked then I suggest to take their clothes off (but keep them in their diaper!), wrap them up in a blanket, then start to feed them. The less we move them around after they have a full belly, the better.

5. What do I do if my baby is sleepy right before the photo shoot? Sometimes your baby will be asleep before we arrive and before the feeding. Try to keep them up by changing them or maybe a nice bath. You want your baby to be tired during the photo shoot, not before

6. How long will the photo shoot last? The length of time would all depend on the photographer and the baby. I have completed newborn photo shoots in an hour and upwards of 4 hours. If the baby is awake during the photo shoot, it's OK! Photos of your baby alert and awake are magical!

7. What props should I have ready and does the photographer bring any? Most of the props and hats that I personally utilize in my photography shoots belong to the baby. The picture will hold a different meaning if you utilize your own hats, blankets, books, and/or other props. Also, don't forget all the gifts that you baby will receive. Using gifts from friends and families makes these photos extra special.

I hope this overview helped answer some of your questions. Good luck and have a great photo shot!

What Makes Drupal 8 The Best Choice for Business Owners? Know The Reasons

By Prince N

A dynamic and powerful content management system is something that every website needs to satisfy the users and also to remain competitive in the market. Various organizations choose to use Drupal development and switch over to the latest version of the software while many others have converted from the competitor open source software like WordPress, Joomla and etc. because of the added functionalities that comes together with the Drupal 8 platform. However, there are various considerations related to upgrades, security features, requirements that you should know before selecting Drupal for your website.

Customizable and scalable:

The latest Drupal version and its modules can easily be customized and scaled as per the business requirements and this helps to contribute to the growth, improvement and innovation of the business. The RESTful API easily connects with other apps and helps the developers to use JSON or HTML for faster and secure data transfer. The latest version also supports multilingual capabilities on the back end and this enables to build sites that can quickly translate them into various other languages.

Authoring experience:

Earlier authoring in Drupal was extremely consistent and was entirely dependent on the efforts of the developer to make writing and editing easy. Out of the box, Drupal had nothing much to offer, but the wide range of modules can be put together to make a wonderful editing experience if the developers took initiatives. But Drupal 8 has come up with a good user experience right out of the box and the authoring environment has also been revamped and is based on extensive usability testing and has the capability to match or beat other CMSs in the market.

Mobile experience:

Drupal 8 has come up with various features that helps to easily manage the site from any smartphone. The responsive experience works well for a wide range of devices and so you don't have to create a separate mobile site. Drupal 8 development makes it a great platform to serve content to mobile apps, web apps or any other place where you want specific data. The "Headless Drupal" is supported and this means that whatever application the users use; it can pull data from Drupal without visiting the site itself.

High growth potential:

Another reason behind business owners choosing the Drupal development platform is that it has hidden strengths to change and help your organization grow. You can easily start developing your start up business with a very small or a basic brochure site and then gradually keep adding features, workflows, scheduling systems, ecommerce groups and etc. to make it feature rich and fulfil your specific business purpose. The latest version of Drupal now uses much more standard industry practice of dependency injection and object orientation and this ultimately makes the end results far more reliable and dependable with fewer conflicts.

Matured platform:

Drupal has been a popular CMs for creating arbitrary databases of content online and bigger organizations have always appreciated the strong group and role capabilities to manage permissions, workflows and access. It had some structural problems that made it difficult to troubleshoot conflicts, make any upgrades and even experience different ways to complete the same task. But with Drupal 8, things have changed and the core has been replaced with an object oriented system that has made upgrades easier. Today, it is a matured platform offering varied features and functionalities to both the users and the developers.

The Drupal 8.4 beta release:

The latest release has added additional improvements and stability giving the developers and site builders the chance to upgrade to the latest version. Drupal has come up with improved tools for content authoring, performance and scalability, site administration and developer experience. Drupal 8 had certain file usage tracking bugs and Drupal 8.4 has disabled the automatic deletion of files. In the earlier versions, data from draft revisions, books and menus could leak into the live site and this issue is fixed and also similar problems in the Content moderation module.

If you are looking for a website that offers strong features and functionalities, then    hiring a Drupal 8 expert developer can bring your business on track and offer better prosperity and growth.

4 Reasons Why The Retail Industry Should Invest In Mobile App Development

By Deepal Bhatnagar

Smartphones are no more a luxury, and the traditional means of shopping are not the only means. Research reveals that in the US, sales that occurred via smartphones increased by 101 percent in 2016's first quarter. The purpose of any mobile app development company is to reconstruct the traditional shopping practices consequently improving the model of mobile marketing.

For clients to instantly get what they want, smartphone apps serve as a personal browsing and comparison tool in their hands. Mobile shopping is earning wider popularity, for the convenience it provides. As an outcome, mobile app development companies offer high-quality and cost-effective technology solutions.

It's more of m-commerce, not e-commerce.

How to Find the Best Software Testing Company

By Darshan T Thakkar

According to the statistics, the IT companies will be increasing their testing budget from 26% to 40% in upcoming years. This increase is because of the importance and necessity of delivering the best quality software in the market to bypass competitors and retaining customers' loyalty. However, the job of finding a good testing company is difficult. There is a shortage of well versed and skilled QA testing companies that can live up to your expectations and prove your suitable collaboration model for the software testing outsourcing project. This article shares the top tips to find the best quality Assurance testing company.

Define a clear collaboration model

Software testing is not a onetime process because even if you have a single software product, there will be version iterations of your product. Thus, the QA is an ongoing project. You need to collaborate with a testing company that can work in harmony with your team and organization to deliver expected outcomes in record time. Thus, before approaching software testing company, outline a collaboration model for the long term. If you think, you are not ready to go for a long-term collaboration model, then outline clear requirement and expected results from the QA testing company. This will help in speeding up discussions once you start finding the best company for software testing outsourcing.

Look references and testimonials

It is important to look at the past work and success stories of the company to assure you are hiring the best software testing company that has already proven itself. You can ask to provide some references to the clients with contact details so you can talk and cross check with them. You can also see the testimonials of the outsourcing testing company received from happy clients. This will give an idea of a company's professionalism and expertise.

Look around in the digital world

It is good to spend some time researching about the company online at different websites that talk about the company. You can see unbiased reviews about the company that will give an idea of how the company operates and what is the reputation of the company. It is always good to outsource your software testing work for the company that has strong and positive online reputation. Please be liberal to overlook some negative reviews as nobody can please everyone.

Ask about the complete proposal

It is always good to get a professional proposal from the company that has details of everything. The proposal must share the scope of work as well as what is not part of the work. The proposal will give a hint of their professionalism, work etiquettes as well as business standards. The proposal will also make things and cost transparent that will save you from any shocks coming your way later.

These are the top things you can do while hunting for the best software testing company. These steps will help you to find a good company that will work with you for years in the process of business growth and quality software delivery.

Natural Language Processing

By Robert K Janis

It wasn't long after someone came up with the idea of a robot that people wanted it to understand human speech and text. It was a dream that could only be found in the pages of science fiction books and short stories, or observed in movies. Known as Natural Language Processing (NLP), the concept of a computer understanding human speech and text is now here.

It is not an easy task to achieve. First, there is the problem of human's speaking in a concise manner so that a machine can understand. Second, the problem of words that sound the same, but have different meanings like weigh and way, weight and wait, etc.

How Natural Language Processing Works

Processing the spoken or written word relies heavily on Big Data, large amounts of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data that can be mined for information. Computers can quickly go through the data, analyze it, and find patterns or trends. Initially, NLP relied on basic rules where machines using algorithms were told what words and phrases to look for in text and then taught specific responses when the phrases appeared. It has evolved into deep learning, a flexible, more instinctive method in which algorithms are used to teach a machine to identify a speaker's intent from a series of examples.

In the evolution of NLP, algorithms have been historically bad at interpreting. However, now with improvements in deep learning and AI, algorithms can now successfully interpret.

If you own an Amazon Echo or a Google Home, then you are interacting with artificial intelligence and NLP. Moreover, it is already being used in all sorts of business applications including manufacturing, business analytics, customer relations, human resources, and healthcare.

NLP, AI, And Businesses

In the coming years, Natural Language Processing and Artificial Intelligence will influence five areas of healthcare.

Clinical Data and Administrative Assistants

Data Mining and Extraction

Market Analysis

Real-Time Translation Services

In customer service, the use of NLP can help determine customer attitudes for future sales. There will be no need for customer surveys. Instead, mining systems will offer deeper insights about a customer's feelings. Chatbots will allow human customer service personnel to concentrate on other types of calls.

NLP will help human resource departments to recruit job seekers, will make it easier to sort through resumes, attract more specific candidates, and hire more qualified workers. NLP in spam detection will keep unwanted emails out of an executive's inbox. It can also be used to "read" tweets and determine whether they are good or bad for a company so that customer concerns can be addressed.

NLP And Social Good

NLP and AI can help prevent school shootings. For example, Columbia University researchers have processed 2 million tweets posted by 9,000 at-risk youth to determine how language changes as a teen gets closer and closer to committing a violent act.

There are so many uses for NLP now and, no doubt, as the technology expands, more can be achieved.

Regardless the business you are in, AI and NLP has or will impact it. Learn more about the technology and products available at   WorkFusion.

The less you know of AI, the more you need to check out WorkFusion.

Create a Lifetime of Sweet Memories With the Professional Wedding Photographer

By Harikrishna Patel

It requires a great deal of imagination and lots of feeling to understand the value of family albums and the still photographs they contain! Whether monochrome or dazzling color, photographs are losing out in the battle with videography that is everywhere, echoing the television culture. Yet, we love our family pictures no matter what and some situations make it more convenient with the stills rather than the video. While films are far more complicated with equipment being required, they do capture live action magically indeed. Maybe you need both photographs and video for the appropriate occasions. Get the professional wedding photographer for those images frozen in time that will tell happy tales for an eternity.

Dramatic scenes would be recorded for posterity

Though the film medium may be a century old, still photographs came so much earlier. Sentiments are still better expressed casually in the hard copy photographs. Not everybody has access to films and screens, the digital world not having reached certain remote areas and sections of society. If you are lost in monochrome memories, think the grand color and all the latest software that apply equally to the video and photographic world too.
