Sitcom Characters Who Seek A Driver's License

A week away from school in late March had become a rite of spring for both high school and college students. There have even been students as young as fourth graders who have trekked to Florida but, fortunately for society, it was a fictional quartet.

"Bart On The Road" is the title of an episode of The Simpsons in which friends Milhouse, Martin and Nelson join Bart on a getaway to the Sunshine State.

They get as far as Knoxville, Tennessee before things go awry.

The most interesting part of the plot is how Bart gets a car as well as a driver's license. Because of "Take Your Child To Work" he spends the day with aunts Selma and Patty at the Springfield Department of Motor Vehicles. Bart manages to create his own fake I.D., rents a car, and convinces his pals to head South for Spring Break.

Of all the TV characters who have tried to attain a driving permit, Bart certainly had the easiest time. Here are nine other sitcom episodes where regular characters undergo the procedure to get a license.

Gidget

The title character (played by Sally Field) needs a license to make flower deliveries so that she can earn enough money to buy her father a new typewriter.

Aunt Bee in The Andy Griffith Show

The female head of the Taylor household became the oldest character to seek a license, terrifying the town of Mayberry in the process.

Goober in Mayberry R.F.D

Homer Pyle's cousin (played by George Lindsay) was a mechanic who already had a license, but he was entrusted to give driving lessons to teenagers until he backed into the Principal's new car.

Gomez Addams in The Addams Family

The head of the eerie and kooky clan seeks a duplicate of his favorite photo, only to find out that the guy who took it now works for the BMV. Gomez (played by John Astin) takes the driver's test only to get the photo that would be placed on the card.

Greg and Marcia in The Brady Bunch

The step-siblings, after an argument about which gender produced better drivers, hold a maneuverability contest.

Al Bundy in Married With Children

The luckless shoe salesman (played by Ed O'Neill) has to renew his elapsed license, only to discover that his son Bud would be giving him the test.

D.J. Tanner in Full House

The eldest of the three sisters has a learner's permit in "Driving Miss D.J." but no one to help her practice, for Danny and Jesse prove far too rigid to drive with.

Drake Bell and Josh Peck in Drake and Josh

In the "Driver's License" episode the two stepbrothers take the test the same day, but trouble ensues when only one of them passes.

Miley Cyrus in Hannah Montana

Billy's daughter fails the test in the "Ready, Set, Don't Drive" episode, so she uses her Hannah Montana disguise to re-take it.

The 5 Characteristics of Any Great Superhero Movie

Superhero movies are all the rage right now & have been box office gold for about the last ten years. The same could not be said about previous attempts, and there are certainly some superhero movies that are favorites for being torched by upset fans expecting so much more than they received.

It's a matter of semantics in that the only way a superhero movie can be seen as successful is that it has to live up to the idea of what a superhero is --- super. Extraordinary. This, it seems, is the pitfall of so many movie attempts.

For the casual fan seeking a little more out of the superhero genre, it is important for him or her to know what to look for in a film of this type. Here are five absolute 'must-haves' for a great superhero movie:

1. Be mindful of the source material --- This is, and always will be, rule number one for a 'caped crusader' type film. These stories, for the most part, began as comic books, and comic book fandom is fandom at it most intense level. These folks know the story inside and out, know the origin stories of everyone in the storyline, and are quick to jump on any error or creative touch a movie studio may try to add.

2. There has to be some tragedy - We live in a world where it seems that everything must have a happy ending. The fact is that most superhero plots involve death, deception, lost love, and occasional uprisings between the heroes and the "normies" that consider them to be unfit. It is from these difficult times that a hero emerges triumphant.

3. There has to be some humor... some - This is tricky, but in the end, if an audience is simply watching a masked crime-fighter hold court 'at the improv' while bashing bad guys, the shtick gets a little old fast. Yes, there is an element of humor that provides moments of catharsis, but a script-writing team needs to know when to interject a laugh.

4. Casting has to be done well - Going back again to the idea that there is a hardcore group of fans that knows the story well of the hero in question, they, too, also have an idea of what they feel the characters all look like as well. Sure, a comic book may only give a small cell's worth of room to do this, but the person cast for a role needs to feel right.

5. There has to be a human element to the characters - Even if we're talking about superhuman figures with superpowers, a movie audience needs to connect with the plight of the hero, as well as all of the other characters. Be it bad guy or love interest, the audience wants to feel invested in a story that has weight. Otherwise, it's just a lot of on-screen action for no reason at all.

The 5 Essential Qualities of Any Great Action Movie

Action movies are the type of movie we try to keep to ourselves when someone asks about our favorite type of film genre. There is an element of the absurd involved in these movies that no one really wants to admit to because we want others to take us seriously. Still, there is something about these blockbusters that draws so many of us to theaters all over the world, so there has to be something that causes us to almost drool when a new action movie hits the big screen.

It's time that we readily admit that we love these movies and that there is nothing wrong with feeling that way. They touch on a very elemental part of our being, and it's about time we acknowledge this genre. It must be said, though, that the real shame has to do with so many bad action movies that exist. These tend to be the ones that draw the ire of movie buffs.

Well, movie buff or not, we like our action movies, but there have to be some standards met so as to not hurt the genre anymore. As such, here are five qualities that are essential:

1. An Actual Plot - This seems like Movie Making 101, but you'd be surprised how many action flicks tend to meander through poor scripts & languid characters. If an action movie to at least be tolerable, it has to move through a standard plot line, something most high school English students know pretty well.

2. Stunts, Stunts, and Stunts - What action-packed adventure would be complete without a stunt list in the closing credits twice as long as the cast of the actual movie? Stunts are what make up the action in action movies. Sure, a well-placed pun can make someone throw a punch, but it's just not the same.

3. Betrayal - If someone is stabbed in the back, literally or figuratively, there is sure to be some level of payback to be had, and with it will be a plethora of action sequences that will get your heart racing & blood pumping.

4. Multiple Love Interests - The action hero always seems to get the girl. One is the necessary sweetheart that gets caught up in a major plot. The other happens to be the girl on the bad guys' side. She has a heart of gold but was lured away to a life of crime. Both tug at the hero's heartstrings, but only one will make it to the end of the movie.

5. A Hero Who's A Wordsmith - Nothing, but nothing, comes close to being an essential action movie quality than that of the hero with a witty way with words. Sometimes a well-placed knife in an enemy or a passionate embrace with a pretty girl can only be punctuated with a killer one-liner.

Action movies are just fun, so ditch the critic role & get in on the fun here in Des Moines, IA today!

The Most Important Thing You Are Overlooking In Your Photography

So you've got your equipment covered. Check.

Super New Lenses. Check.

Filters, flash and extra lighting. Check.

So why aren't your images in a new class of their own?

Why do they seem to lack something?

One of the questions that I get asked the most when meeting a new photographer is how to get better pictures, especially from those that are new to the field. My answer is always the same, forget the equipment that is in your hands, the most important aspect of any photography is the brain that is sitting behind the viewfinder.

The most important aspect of any photography is the brain that is sitting behind the viewfinder.

All the technical aspects, f-stops, exposure, shutter speed and white balance amongst others will let you achieve a technically correct image and not an emotively correct image. What is an 'emotively correct' image? It's an image that provokes some kind of feeling and emotion in the viewer. The most powerful imagery in history has always been emotion packed, a thousand word story captured in a split micro-second.

Lots of photographers either overlook this fact or don't pay it the attention that it deserves.

Taking your viewers on a magic carpet ride of the world as seen through your eyes, not just simple captures of moments in time. All the greatest equipment in the world will be absolutely useless to you unless you can learn this one simple truth about photography.

Now obviously there are times, or will be times in your photographic journey where you will have to put this further back in your mind. Times when your artistic and creative vision will need to take a back seat. Times when you have to give the clients what they want, mainly this takes place in product photography.

Say for instance, that you have been hired to shoot for some kind of fashion label. I can practically guarantee you that they will not be interested in your artistic vision unless you were a part of the decision-making process for the entire campaign, which is very rare! At these times in your journey, sit back and give the clients what they are after. It will help you pay the bills.

Apart from those times when you have to do this, let yourself go. Don't be tied down by any kind of dogma or well-meaning feedback from people that you didn't even ask for. Follow your own instincts and remember to tell the story as you see it.

Only imitate those photographers that you like - as a starting point for your own style.

My crazy world has included successfully combining all the skills of a artist, photographer, designer, programmer, and marketer into one crazy life.

I'm available for guest blogging, article writing and speaking events.

5 Tips To Help You Find and Book The Perfect Cabin Rental in Texas

Cabin rentals in Texas is a great option for a vacation in the South. Texas boasts a varied landscape, including hills, mountains, beaches, deserts, and forests, all great settings for enjoying a vacation in a cabin. The key to making the most out of your vacation rental is to determine ahead of time which aspects of the vacation are important to you and ensuring you secure those necessities at the right price. Take a look at the following guide to help you in booking your next cabin rental:

1. Consider the location.

This is a bit of a chicken or egg scenario, but you should decide which area you want to visit in Texas, and, of course, which area is conducive to good cabin settings. For instance, hills and remote areas, like the Hill Country area in Leakey, Concan and Uvalde County, are often suited for different rugged rentals. Areas near and/or on rivers are also ripe for cabin rentals in Texas. The Frio River is a great example of an idyllic spot for cabin rentals.

2. Decide what kind of amenities you would like.

Different accommodations come with a wide arrange of amenities. Very basic, primitive structures may be better for those on a budget, or for those who are looking for a more "roughing it" vacation. These include hunters, hikers and campers. Hunting in Texas can be varied, based on the location. Deer season is particularly fruitful in just about any area of Texas, but especially the hilly parts in Central Texas and the forested areas in East Texas. Some cabins come fully stocked and are advertised as luxury cabins. These often come equipped with hot tubs and kitchens and more comfortable decorations. And of course, there are always the in-between cabins that are not quite rugged and not quite luxurious. These are generally perfect for families. Size should also be considered an amenity. If you are going with a group, check of cabins situated together or bigger, multi-family dwellings. Sleeping arrangements can help figure into the size, with fold-out couches and bunk beds offering ideal spots for children.

3. Contact the local tourist centers and visitor's bureaus.

If you are having trouble deciding which cabin rentals in Texas are reputable and which ones would be well suited for your situation, you should consider contacting the local visitor's bureaus, chamber of commerces, and tourist centers. These are tried-and-true information hot-spots. Generally, locals man these stations and will be able to direct you in the right direction. Also, the staff should be able to confirm whether a business is in good-standing. Additionally, if you are having a difficult time deciding in which area of Texas to book your vacation, these local offices should be able to let you know what there is to do in the area.

4. Determine what activities are available.

Vacationing possibilities are endless in Texas. Cabins are well-suited for many different activities, but to choose the best possible option for yourself, you should think about the goal of your trip. Outdoor, nature trips are one option. Texas has a great state park system, with over 95 parks. Areas with water are also ideal, with lakes predominately throughout North Texas, Central Texas and East Texas. Check the hiking options and fishing options in the area. Wine tours, music festivals, river sports and group camping tours are also great ways to spend a vacation. The type of cabin you secure should be entirely dependent on how you want to spend your days.

5. Search for online deals.

Last, but certainly not least, look online for different deals and specials. Off-season times of the year and weekdays are particularly smart times to book if you are interested in saving some money. And again, check with the local businesses for recommendations, coupons and specials for cabin rentals in Texas.

Petra is secluded from the rest of the world and is located like a valley between the rugged mountains of Jordan's countryside. This city is said to have been hidden from the world for many years and was only discovered by chance by some curious and inquisitive archeologists. Another thing that is astonishing about this is the fact that you cannot drown in the Dead Sea no matter how hard you try to do so. There are no fish living or dead here no plants to help you wind your way around the deep sea. But it is still said that going deep sea diving here is a worthwhile experience.

3. Wadi Rum
The valley of water or Wadi Rum as the locals call it consists of centuries old river beds and huge areas of dry sandy desert combined together. This valley is located in the south of Jordan. English to French Translation

What do you call someone who speaks 3 languages? Trilingual

What do you call someone who speaks 2 languages? Bilingual

What do you call someone who speaks 1 language? French

French is the national language of France. The hackneyed world view was that the people of France so highly regarded their language (and themselves) that they refused to speak in anything else! This may or may not have been true, but it is certainly not the reality today with France being an integral part of the multilingual European Union.

The marriage of convenience

France is the ninth-largest economy in the world and ranks fourth in the Fortune Global 500 ahead of Germany AND the UK.

France is the largest country in the European Union and its second largest economy on the strength of purchasing power. It is at the heart of the EU excellently connected by its communications network. France is in easy reach of UK's industrial centres as well as the vast industrial belts along Germany's border. This enviously situated country is also a part of the Mediterranean arc running to Italy.

The French coastline is not just known for its rich and famous revellers: it provides access by sea to Northern Europe, Africa, and America.

The fascination with France

The world has always been fascinated with all things French which are regarded as the height of elegance and sophistication. French fashion, cuisine, and art have always been trendsetters.

This is not just a one-way street with the world being interested. French leaders are increasingly aware that the future of France is tied not just to the development of the EU but of trade and cultural relations with the rest of the world.

Venturing into France

The Economist notes that there has been a marked shift in the French start-up scene in particular and the economic scene in general. This is a country that is looking towards 'fresh growth' with a 'new vibe' and a more global attitude. This has resulted in new ventures and the capital for it is beginning to flow with increasing speeds and volumes. Last year France raised capital of 2.7 billion Euros.

Earlier investments in infrastructure for industries and start-ups are also delivering huge pay-offs. Existing big businesses had also invested in training facilities and incubator firms in previous years; these are now producing French entrepreneurs who look at the business scene with vista vision goggles. They dream big and multinational.

French is not just the language of France

French is spoken in 29 countries as an official language: la francophonie, the sorority of French-speaking countries. Parts of Canada, Belgium, and Switzerland, Monaco and the erstwhile French playgrounds of sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East all belong to this French speaking club.

So when we speak of the desirability or the need to learn or operate in French, we must consider this extended populace too, not just the more than 65 million of France.

English to French translation

Want to do business with the French? Of course!

Then one has to understand that the French way of doing business is very closely connected to French culture and French culture starts with respect for the French language.

Noting the need for translations into French, research conducted by Cardiff University pointed out that English could be used ONLY for initial feelers and forays into the highly desirable French market. Entrenching businesses and related activities need French of the highest quality. Point to be noted: the French-speaking market includes all those countries where the language is spoken, officially or otherwise, like Africa and the Middle East.

It's a small world

Cultural exchanges go hand in hand with economic ties. France has always been famous for its highly cultured society. French interest in literature, drama, theatre and the arts is no surprise to anybody.

Maintaining diplomatic relations with other countries is the reality of today's way of life when finding common grounds is preferred to confrontation.

It is not just business and common economic interests that drive the need for translation. French interest in 'elevating' life and in being an integral part of, not just the EU, but also the world community also requires translation services. Since English is considered the lingua franca, and so much of the scientific, cultural and literary is in the language, English to French translation becomes necessary.

Perfection needed

La perfection is the paramount need for English to French translation. The script and the spelling are the same, but phonetically there is a world of difference.

French is a melodious language with sounds gently flowing into each other. The main reason for this is that consonants at the ends of words do not check this flow as they are rarely pronounced. This can make it difficult to match sound with text. Only an expert translator with a grip on the language can do it.

Unlike in English, every French word has a gender. Ah, French verbs! They are the dominion of the Francophone alone; not easy to master unless you speak French like, well, the French!

Why You Should Stop Worrying About Natural Talent For Guitar

Want to become a better guitarist faster? Stop worrying about your level of natural talent for guitar. Thinking about how much talent you have (or don't have) slows down your progress for 3 reasons:

You Self-Sabotage Yourself

Blaming slow progress on (perceived) lack of talent becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

If you believe you lack having talent, you stop trying to improve your guitar playing. This stops your progress in its tracks.

If you believe you do have a lot of starting talent, it's easy to become complacent and expect talent to do the work for you. This makes you lazy and unmotivated to practice and slows down your progress.

It Distracts You From The Important Things That Really Matter

It takes a lot of work to become a good guitar player, whether you have natural talent or not. No guitar player becomes great from talent alone. The best guitarists practiced long and hard to develop their skills.

It's impossible to know your level of natural talent until YOU do everything possible to become the very best guitarist you can be.

Your Level Of Natural Talent Doesn't Actually Matter

"Talent" is the body's (and mind's) natural tendency to do things correctly. Guitarists with natural talent instinctively practice the right way, learn to integrate their skills and apply them to music. The vast majority of guitar players can't do this on their own.

Good news: when you follow the same process great guitarists follow, YOU achieve the same level of greatness. An expert guitar teacher teaches you everything that naturally talented guitarists know and do. This installs talent into your mind and hands and makes the amount of natural talent you have completely irrelevant.

(Note: most guitar teachers are not experts. Choose your guitar teacher carefully.)

What You Should Do Now:

1. Realize that your guitar playing future is within your control. You alone determine how good of a guitar player you become.

2. Learn simple steps you can take right now to become a better guitar player faster.

3. Find and work together with a great guitar teacher. To ensure you work with the best teacher possible, look on their website to find guitar teaching certification and proof that they've helped other students get big results. Once you've found this, contact them and discuss your major musical goals. Then begin lessons together and start making faster progress than you've ever made!
