Getting to Know Seasonal Disease Leptospirosis During the Rainy Season

Indonesia is a tropical country, and has only 2 seasons. Drought and Rain both seasons have their own problems. When the dry season arrives water supply is sometimes difficult to obtain, and when the rainy season arrives flood disasters often occur.

Currently, the rainy season is ongoing, and there are many areas in Indonesia experiencing flood disasters. In addition to flooding, the rainy season often increases the risk of diseases, especially of animal origin. When flood disasters come Leptospirosis disease is often a troubling problem.

Leptospirosis is a disease that is rarely known to many people. The disease is usually transmitted from the urine of rodents. Rat urine contains bacteria that can enter through injured skin or mucous membranes upon contact with floods or puddles contaminated with urine from these rodents.

Symptoms of this disease of leptospirosis can be:

• Sudden fever

• Slogans

• Reddened eyes

• Yellowish skin

• Headache

• Muscle pain in the calf.


The prevention that can be done is to wear rubber gloves to use rubber boots to avoid contact with contaminated water. This is difficult to do because floods certainly cannot be predicted clearly. Plus when the flood disaster hits the vulnerable body is tired to survive the flood. Weather and conditions make the body lower its endurance. Not only water can be contaminated but food can also be contaminated from this Leptospira bacteria.

Treatment for Leptospirosis.

Infection from Leptospira bacteria may not require special treatment for mild conditions. A mildly infected individual could have recovered on its own within seven days. The administration of drugs is usually intended to relieve symptoms and prevent the onset of complications.

Drugs For Leptospirosis.

The use of antibiotics in the case of Leptpspirosis must be given because, the cause is leptospira bacteria.
Antibitic Group : Amoxicillin, Penicillin, Doxycycline, or Azitthromycin.
In addition to the administration of antibiotics, antipyretic and analgesic administration were also given such as Paracetamol and Ibuprofen.

Of course, if something untoward happens or arises, it must be referred to the nearest hospital. But to increase the number of patients and not be accommodated, we need to prevent it.
