Dangal - A Must Watch

I must acknowledge that after a long time I felt I received value for the money after watching this inspiring movie. The sports drama film based on the real-life journey of India wrestler sisters Geeta and Babita Phogat is compelling to watch for several reasons.

Dangal, meaning a wrestling competition offers a riveting story, will fascinatingly captivate your attention until the end, overthrowing your prediction as to what will happen next. Well, while we watch movies, we have a tendency to point out very often, implicitly if not explicitly, where the story line is heading. Although you might me knowing a bit about the story revolving around India's first ever gold medal in women's wrestling "Commonwealth Games 2010", the movie takes you to interesting insights into the arduous journey of two wrestling sisters Geeta and Babita.

A recap of wrestler sisters' historic wins at the Commonwealth Games and their stubborn father Mahavir Singh's resolve to make them professional wrestlers against the odds, the movie offers many surprises. The fight between Geeta and Mahavir roles holds your breath.

Mr Perfectionist did not struggle to find the awesome real life tale. The actor-producer-director's famous Satyamev Jayate saw the two sisters on its show when the wrestlers briefly explained their journey and their father's role in the success. Babita recalled how Karnam Malleswari's win in 2000 inspired her father to prepare the two for gold medals.

The comedy was light but very timely. Aamir nephew's humorous narration, and comic acts by different characters were really funny, and hold your attention, making you smile whenever these characters appear on the screen. Credit goes to the writing by Director Nitesh Tiwari, along with three others Piyush Gupta, Shreyas Jain and Nikhil Mehrotra.

The music was awesome, particularly the title track of the film. High on the energetic vocals of Daler Mehendi, the song makes up for a good hear. Pritam does a fairly good job as composer.

The acting was stunningly performed by the lead characters. Thankfully, Aamir did not take complete space on the screen. The performance of the lead roles, whether child actors or adult roles of Geeta and Babita played by Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra, was most intense. The climax makes you feel you are watching a live match. The winning moment was nail biting.

Overall, the movie was good to watch with the family. I give 4/5 stars.
